JimsKnight Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Will a chipped Xbox 360 be banned from Xbox live?
skippybangkok Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Will a chipped Xbox 360 be banned from Xbox live? yEP, HAVE PROOF
samsara Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Will a chipped Xbox 360 be banned from Xbox live? yEP, HAVE PROOF just want to confirm this. you mean a chipped 360 wont be able to log on to xbl?

dekka007 Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Actually the ban will only occur if you are using a old firmware on the drive ie not the latest extreme firmware. And playing backup games without them patched using the xbox live stealth.
samsara Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 but msoft will soon ban the extreme firmware, no? basically, it sounds to me that playing with a chipped box just creates and endless cycle of problems. are the games identical in every way? when you do rig it so you can log on is xbl slower on account of the stealth, etc.?
JimsKnight Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Gentlemen, it seems the consensus is 'Don't chip your xbox' unless you want to lose access to XBL...
Devil Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 First I have heard of this??? Been on Live for over 4 months, presume my console is chipped? it was a import frm S korea and plays all the copy games. No idea which firmware this console has.
phazey Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I've a "chipped" 360, on XBL as of last night. No problems. MS ban manually(human intervention). They do so in a number of ways; Looking for the event "E65" on your machine slogs - this means the machine was powered up with no DVD drive attached. Challenging the timings of "backups" for drive seeks - burnt games differ. I've not played a "backup" online since the spring dash update cos i'm waiting for one XBLA game to be released. Also, as we mostly get the Chinese "pressed" backups, i dont know if the seek times will differ with these...I may try soon as my 360 is on it's way out and needs replacing...

Backups? is this the lingo for copies? and seek time vary? whats that (sorry for ignorance but not a techy) also how do I know if thisconsole has been chipped and why ok for 4 months on live, as bought plenty of Live Arcade games with my MPoints.
Devil Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I see this subject a few times come up on various forums. So where u supposed to buy original games in Thailand then? and how much? and if my machine came form S korea (says on the box) is there zoning restrictions to DVD, Games that work. (Need English language)that is if you dont want to buy a chipped xbox, can you buy them unchipped in Thailand? And even better question can you get a chipped xbox unchipped without any problems associated that has been mentioned. I have bought a handful of Live Arcade games to download and play officially. How long ago was it (the person who said he got banned form Live) thats sounds a bit of a nightmare, can You not unchip your xbox? (as above question) the sign in with different Live I.D. I dont mind paying 1,000-2,000 baht a game if I could find them to buy, Or even buy mail service, as no where here on Samui can you buy them... called XGames here
phazey Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Few answers; The time it takes for a game to load differs between originals & "backups" (yes i use this term because piracy is against forum rules, but i am legally within my right to backup software i own for safety purposes). There also some PFI/DMI challenge that some "stealth firmware" hides... Regarding banning, the CONSOLE is banned, not the account - so you are free to buy a core system and plonk your old harddrive in. I've seen stories of people buying 2nd hand or refurb units that were previously banned - be careful (one of these was from an Ms approved repair centre!). But if you are banned, all is not quite lost, google for "Xlink kai" (there's other software that does the same) and it'll spoof a local lan game over the net. Seems to be quite a few 360 owners online...
Ian_B Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 After my 3rd UK 360 failed I went to Game Mania in Pantip and had all 3 repaired and 2 of them chipped. Judging by how poorly MS make these 360 consoles I'm expecting all 3 newly repaired 360s to fail soon after the 3 month guarantees expire I swore I'd never get the 360 chipped but I'd had enough of the failure rate. I'm only going to get the AAA titles imported now (Bioshock, Mass Effect etc) BTW the repaired 360's are about twice as loud as before - I presume Game Mania have added more powerful cooling fans that MS should have installed in the first place?
phazey Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 How did they fail? My GPU has started to go titsup...
davejonesbkk Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 Ive read loads of different stuff about live and getting banned, so many different theories...some people online for months without getting banned. the xbox-scene site has an excellent forum about all of this. They also said something there about getting banned depends on what DVD drive you have. If it's Hitachi-LG then you are more likely to get banned as they are easier to detect but Samsun-Toshiba ones are harder to detect...You can check by ejecting the tray, if it has a small hole in the tray then its hitachi-Lg. (I have the samsung-toshiba one) Ive also read some crazy stuff like how some people have sent in there CHIPPED consoles to microsoft for repair and they have repaired them and sometimes sent back brand new ones!!! Ive just passed my first month on live, so far so good (touch a massive piece of wood ) I do it with monthly payments using a credit card...might be a good idea not to get any negative reviews of other players by team killing, swearing etc as this will alert microsoft. But Im so hooked on online play (all my offline games like Oblivion are gathering dust now) that I will get serious cold turkey if I get banned!!!
quiksilva Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I have been a member of xlink kai since 2004, and know the creator of that service. 360's can play online there IF the pings are lower than 30ms. More than that then forget it. Best option by far is to keep it original, I buy original games from www.playasia.com who accept Thai credit cards and ship to Thailand gratis. (I am in no way affiliated to that site).
davejonesbkk Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 Seeing as we have a bunch of 'xboxers' here I have a quick question: Does anyone know where to get beta games from on live? I mean like the beta version of Halo3 multiplayer...theres supposed to be a multiplayer beta of cod4 out soon and its meant to be amazing...
quiksilva Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I think entry to the beta version of Halo 3 came free with the original version of another game called .... errr... ermm... (hang on I'll google it) [Yes that's it] "Crackdown" which I hear was just okay but basically sold really well because of the Halo 3 beta. here you go lots of info on that beta here
