Hi all,

I am not sure if there s a topic about GPS in Thailand but I could not find it yet ( well only dated back 2005 )

I've got a nuvi 200 bought in Europe. I understand from old topics that to unlock it and to upload the Thailand map it would cost about 14000 THB ??? That's 290 Euros ++..... i bought it brand new at 199 Euro....

There a place called Gadgettrend in soi 55/13. Are there other solutiona ? Thanks

I spoke with Gadget Trend this week about GPS. If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive GPS, they recommended waiting until the end of this month when they will have the Garmin Nuvi 200, priced at around 15,000 baht, and that includes the Thailand maps (with details of Bangkok and other citiies. The maps and spoken directions work in English.

By the way, I emailed Gadget Trend about this and received a reply within an hour. They do seem very responsive, and for that alone I would buy from them.

Yes, they are a very good little shop - its worth going down there to have a browse. They seem to have a lot on show and the girl there actually knows all about the different features.

Google for Rotweiler maps. They will want a donation for downloading their maps but it is certainly cheaper than 14,000 baht from Gadget Trend. The maps are a LOT better than the free downloads from Map Center and all of Thailand is available. I use the Rotweiler maps and am satisfied with them considering the price. My Garmin 2610 came with a 128 MB memory card and that is too small to install the entire Thailand map. I bought a 1 GB card for my unit.

ADDED - From what I understand, the ESRI map cannot be shown on your computer. I can open the Rotweiler maps on my computer and transfer back and forth from the GPS unit to the computer. That makes it much easier to program routes and way points into the GPS.

I bought my Garmin 2720 there, its a good shop and the girl is good to explain "how to do" and they will send you a mail when there is update for your unit.

BTW, I just bought the Nuvi 200 today (Thai edition, with Thai country and city maps). Price was 14,700 baht. I haven't had a chance to use it much, but I'm happy with it so far. It does actually fit in a shirt pocket, and the colour display is excellent.

If your 660 has an SD memory card, you would be way ahead to pull yours out and keep it somewhere. You can buy a new one gig card for less than 600 baht. Your internal memory would not be large enough hold a map. The internal memory will remember your way points when you swap memory cards so you would lose nothing. Both my Garmins store the maps on the memory cards.

Still hard to beat the asus P575 - colour & audio GPS, Thai, English, Windows PDA, Skype, Wifi, Blue tooth, all band Phone and fits in the pocket to boot.

Now this threat has gotten me interested in buying the Garmin Mobile 10 bluetooth GPS receiver.. anyone has experience with using it on the HTC Touch? What about maps in other places like the UK.. can I install that on my pda along with the supplied thai maps?
