A construction worker has been seriously injured after being trapped by a trench collapse at Sri Racha-Nong Kho Road, Nong Kham Subdistrict, Sri Racha District, Chonburi. The incident took place near Wat Nong Kho, where a large section of earth slid down, burying the man from the waist down. His chest was also struck by a metal pipe during the collapse.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the collapse occurred. A rescue team from the Phuea Yieng Thai organisation arrived to assist the victim, who was identified as a 44-year-old male.

His colleagues at the site had already begun digging to free him before the rescuers arrived. Despite the efforts to lift the earth, the man was reported to be experiencing severe chest tightness, prompting his immediate treatment by medics.

After administering initial first aid to stabilise the worker, he was eventually dug out by hand, taking about 30 minutes and transported to Phyathai Sriracha Hospital, for further medical attention. His condition was described as stable.

Local authorities, including the Nong Kham Police Station, have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the trench collapse, and it is initially believed that the collapse may have been caused by unstable soil in the area and lack of adequate shoring of the trench or angle of trench sides, to cope with this type of soil conditions.

Sounds as though cutting corners is the problem at the expense of safety

Rarely have I ever seen trench shoring! I've seen workers in 2+m trenches totally oblivious of the perils.

I doubt authorities know either.

Thai safety!!  They have NO idea ?? They always launched an investigation  but that is it, no outcome, no prosecution of the employer, Thailand has a plethora of safety rules and Reg's but NO enforcement

the Primary legislation to regulate occupational safety and health (OSH) in Thailand is Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Act B.E. 2554 (2011). The act clarifies responsibilities and duties of employer and employee as well as those of governments. Employer shall provide a safe working environment for employees.
