What does anyone think of Barrio Barretto?

Featured Replies

What does anyone think of Barrio Barretto?  I got recommended there as a retirement possibility.

Great place, nightclubs, bars, Mexican/German/British/Australian food, really cheap but decent spirits and a couple of great beaches.

Before COVID I would holiday there with a bunch of pals 3x a year.

Accomodation about 20% more than Thailand, powers cuts 4x a week, and the internet is a lot slower.

Baloy Long beach, and Barretto bay.

Did some diving out of Blue Rock resort about 10 years ago. Shipwreck diving, quite fun.

Beaches are marginal, hard pack dark sand, not so great. Sea water brackish, looks like Subic outflow. A few little clubs, same thing, just kind of marginal and not so great. Some cuties though, for sure.

I think I prefer La Union/San Fernando. Coastline and beaches there nicer.

The overflow used to be called S#!t River back in the days when the base was still open. When you crossed the bridge leading to Olongapo you knew. It's been cleaned up but still all those homes by river still dump into it I'm sure. My last time there was 2019. Barretto is good fun for awhile, just couldn't see staying there permanently.
