Earlier this year I flew to Singapore from Phuket, on a weekly basis for six weeks so that I could have medical treatment. Every time I flew, the queue for immigration was outside of the actual immigration hall. 40/50 minutes to reach the immigration desk was the norm. It was high season and it was Phuket and the simple reason is that the airport cannot cope with the number of visitors at that time of year. So of course, it depends on the airport and time of year.

Although there were some news articles last year re Thailand was considering adopting the "global income" system for Thai income tax, it never went beyond the talking about it stage. Currently, only assessable income earned in or brought into Thailand is subject to Thai tax.
