Australian Man Arrested After Loaded Gun Found During Patong Patrol

In a dramatic turn of events, police apprehended an Australian man early this morning (Apr 21) on Phuket's buzzing Bangla Rd, Patong, for carrying a loaded and illegal firearm.

The Australian man, 31, was snagged by officers during a routine patrol at approximately 3:40 am, clutching a 'Thai-made' .38-calibre handgun.

The Aussie was packing a punch with eight PMC-brand bullets nestled snugly in the gun's magazine.

Alongside this alarming firepower, police also confiscated a bullet holster and a black fabric pistol holster. The unexpected find was enough to land the Australian man directly in handcuffs and en route to Patong Police Station.

Authorities have slapped McGahey with charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition sans permit, alongside carrying a loaded weapon in public without valid cause.

Was he really holding the gun on a busy road?  It would seem more sensible to have it somewhere hidden.

Don't understand why they would want to check him , he's dressed like a respectable businessman 😄

Not wanting to draw attention to himself dressed in full hells angels colours and waving a loaded pistol about Mr Mcgahey, thought to be a mensa member , wonders what all the fuss is about . " I was only going to 7-11 for some corn on the cob and a nice cheese toastie cobbers "

Guess a few years in pokey now then unless he's very well minted .

I know the ladyboys on Soi Bangla can be a bit aggressive, but I think he went a bit too far trying to protect himself... lol

Yes, "snugly" is the way you want them nestled, as opposed to "hangin' out rather loosely in the magazine"

Or just don't piss anyone off....

Is a semi-auto pistol.  So the caliber must be .38 super, a souped up 9mm cartridge for shooting sports, if really a .38.  Odd choice for an illegal weapon because there are not many compared to bog standard 9mm and hard to come by in Thailand.  The powerful ammo would blow a home made pistol apart.  I think more likely a .380 ACP which is short, lower powered 9mm cartridge, commonly used in converted blank guns in Thailand like the gun used to murder people in Siam Paragon.  The shorter size fits the blank guns and the lower power makes them less likely to blow apart. But still quite hard to find ammo.

Look on the bright side. He only had bullets and not full rounds of ammunition. A good match for a locally made firearm of doubtful safety.

A tough guy biker or a wanna be tough guy??

Routine patrol at 3:40 am lol , it’s more like Thai police are in contact with Australian raptor force police  regarding outlaw  bikers  operating in Thailand , since the hells angels murder in Pattaya & the outlaws murder in Pattaya they are cracking down  on some international mc clubs  operating in the kingdom .

Yes, for what purpose would you carry a hand gun around, unless you had got yourself into trouble, I also think he was dobbed in

because it originated from the Hells Angles USA.

They check only 1% of the people...

So what will this guy get, big fine, jail time and then deportation?  Just wondering.

The guy on the right (as you look) is desperate to point, but must have been told NO!
