Crime Bomb Attack on Paramilitary Base Injures 75-Year-Old Man

Tensions flared in the troubled southern provinces on 27 April, when insurgents hurled two pipe bombs at a paramilitary base, injuring a 75-year-old civilian.

 

The incident occurred at around 14:00 at the operations base of Paramilitary Company 4602, located in Ban Sue So, Village 4, Rueso District, Narathiwat Province. Police Colonel Direk Chomyong, Deputy Commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police, Colonel Sitthichai Bamrungket, Commander of Task Force 56, and other forensic and bomb disposal teams rushed to the scene alongside a contingent of police and soldiers.

 

According to reports, four assailants riding two motorbikes approached the base during heavy rainfall. The pillion passengers on each motorcycle threw improvised pipe bombs into the compound. One bomb landed on a concrete yard within the base, creating a crater approximately one centimetre deep and six centimetres wide, with shrapnel and fragments scattered across the area.

 

The second device landed on the tarmac road directly in front of the base, near house number 50/1. Although no soldiers were harmed, shrapnel from the explosion injured Mr Yuso Jehko, 75, who was being transported home on a motorbike by his neighbour, Mr Ismae Boeitae, 68. Mr Yuso sustained injuries to his right shoulder blade area.

 

Emergency teams quickly cordoned off the scene, wary of potential secondary attacks designed to target responders. After receiving first aid at Rue So Hospital, Mr Yuso was discharged and permitted to recover at home.

 

Investigators discovered parts of the explosive devices, which had been packed into cylindrical iron tubes approximately three inches in diameter and six inches long, weighing around two kilogrammes. A blue plastic safety pin was also recovered as evidence.

 

Authorities believe the attack was the work of local insurgents aiming to assassinate security personnel and destabilise the area. The attack comes amid ongoing violence in Thailand’s southern border provinces, where separatist movements have been active for decades.

 

Police and military units have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.

There is no need to sugar coat it. Just say like it is. Once again muslims have broken the law, used bombs and hurt people.
