Accident Woman Critically Injured After Crashing into Fallen Bale of Compressed Paper

A woman was left unconscious and seriously injured after her vehicle collided at full speed with a bale of compressed paper that had fallen from a lorry in Chachoengsao province on the afternoon of 10 June.

 

The incident occurred on a road running alongside an irrigation canal in Moo 6, Khlong Khuean sub-district, Khlong Khuean district. Emergency services from Khlong Khuean Hospital and local rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.

On arrival, responders found large bales of compressed paper scattered across the road. Nearby, a white Honda CR-V was discovered with its front end extensively damaged and its windscreen shattered. The airbag had deployed, and a female driver was found unconscious inside. Rescue personnel used hydraulic cutters to extract her from the vehicle and rushed her to hospital.

 

The victim was later identified as Ms. Thananit aged 45. Approximately 50 metres away from the crash site, authorities located a white Isuzu 12-wheeled lorry registered in Prachinburi province. The vehicle, which had been transporting the paper bales, was being driven by 30-year-old Mr. Thotsaphon.

During questioning, Mr. Thotsaphon stated that he had been en route from a paper factory, heading to deliver the load to a cardboard packaging facility in Mueang Prachinburi district, a journey he makes every other day. Just before the incident, he had navigated a mild left-hand bend and was entering a straight section of road when a strap securing the paper bales snapped. As a result, one of the heavy bundles fell off the lorry and into the opposite lane, directly in the path of the oncoming CR-V.

 

The force of the impact caused the woman to lose consciousness and become trapped inside the vehicle.

 

While inspecting the scene, police officers discovered 80,000 baht in cash in a basket at the rear of the woman’s vehicle, along with official road construction documents. Investigations revealed she had just returned from signing a construction contract at the Bang Rong Subdistrict Administrative Office.

 

Police have launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash. All relevant parties are expected to be called in for further questioning as evidence is collected.
