The body of a man who went missing during Tropical Storm Wipha has been discovered in the Yom River after several days of intense search efforts, officials confirmed.

Mr Kaneat Kamnon, District Chief of Chiang Muan, mobilised security personnel from the district office, along with members of the 5th Chiang Muan District Volunteer Defence Company, the Ban Mang Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, local village leaders, and rescue personnel from the Luecha Chiang Muan Foundation.

The search operation had been underway since the early hours of 26 July, when the victim was swept away by powerful floodwaters during the height of the storm. The search was hampered by intermittent rainfall and strong river currents, but continued tirelessly.

Rescuers eventually located the body of Mr Wuttichart Ounkanta, 35, a resident of Pa Khaem Tai Village, Moo 4, Ban Mang Subdistrict. His body was found at Kaeng Luang, a section of the Yom River roughly 1.5 kilometres downstream from where he was believed to have been swept away.

Rescue teams carefully retrieved the body and handed it over to the victim’s family for religious rites.

District Chief Mr Kamnon expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and urged all local agencies to remain vigilant. He instructed them to continue closely monitoring the situation and to provide timely warnings to residents, as the region remains at risk of further heavy rain and flash flooding.
