Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair attended a high-stakes meeting at the White House with US President Donald Trump to hammer out plans for post-war Gaza. The gathering aligns with a heightened period of tension, as Israel's military gears up to capture Gaza City, further complicating delicate Middle Eastern politics.

Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff noted the US is crafting a "very comprehensive" plan for Gaza's future post-conflict. However, details remain sparse. Blair, who previously served as a Middle East envoy from 2007, aimed to foster economic growth and conditions for a two-state solution during his tenure.

Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar quashed the notion of a Palestinian state when pressed on future governance.

As Israeli tanks advanced into Gaza City, the military underscored the imminent necessity of evacuating the city. Witnesses described a harrowing scene as Israeli forces demolished homes, forcing large numbers of residents to flee. This latest offensive, following Israel's August ambition to seize the entire Gaza Strip, has left thousands displaced within the city.

The UN and various NGOs have repeatedly warned about the "horrific humanitarian impact" resulting from this offensive, particularly in light of a recently declared famine in Gaza City. Amidst widespread devastation, questions persist about the long-term solutions for the region.

During a Fox News interview, Witkoff optimistically predicted that the Gaza conflict could conclude within four months. The White House reiterated that Trump intends to promote peace and prosperity for everyone in the region, but the details of the potential governance blueprint are still undisclosed. Notably, Trump's February comments alluded to relocating Gazans and transforming the territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East."

RReports from Axios claim that Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, also participated in the discussions, which indicates the significance of the meeting. Meanwhile, on the ground, the situation in Gaza City remained tense with escalating attacks and Israeli military advances, reported the BBC.

In a stark warning, the Israeli military urged Gaza City residents to move south, promising generous humanitarian aid, but the UN condemned this as a "recipe for further disaster" amid already "overcrowded and ill-equipped" southern areas.

PPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to capture the entire Gaza Strip after the failure of indirect ceasefire talks with Hamas. However, pressure mounts both internationally and domestically, as opponents, including tens of thousands of protesters in Tel Aviv, clamour for a ceasefire and hostage negotiations.

TThe conflict began with Hamas's attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023 and has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with around 62,900 reported dead in Gaza according to the Hamas-run health ministry. As humanitarian conditions worsen, the call for a diplomatic resolution grows increasingly urgent.
