An opposition MP criticized the Prime Minister's wife for allegedly threatening reporters questioning her husband. This follows a video showing Thananon Niramit, the wife of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, asking reporters why they were being "mean" to him. The interaction took place after Anutin's return from Malaysia, where he was questioned on various political issues.

The incident began at Don Mueang Airport, where Anutin addressed comments perceived as admitting Thailand encroachment on Cambodian soil. He clarified his remarks, mentioning they referred to disputed areas and emphasized adherence to agreements. He apologized for any confusion caused by his earlier statements, then moved on to discuss agreements signed with the U.S. regarding critical minerals and trade, including a significant aircraft purchase worth $18.8 billion.

Additionally, questions arose about allegations of a coalition MP's involvement with scammers. Anutin ended the press session citing a tight schedule. Shortly after, Thananon approached the reporters with a smile and a wai, expressing her displeasure with their questioning tactics, which some perceived as a veiled threat despite her calm demeanor.

Opposition MP Pukkamon Nunarnan from the People’s Party argued that even though Thananon's comments appeared light-hearted, they were tantamount to a threat against journalistic duties. Pukkamon emphasized the need for leaders and their families to handle press scrutiny appropriately, suggesting a simple greeting from the PM's spouse would have been more suitable.

Looking forward, the episode raises questions about how political figures should interact with the media, especially regarding accountability and transparency. Observers will watch for potential changes in how such communications are managed in the future.

Key Takeaways

  • Prime Minister’s wife accused of subtly intimidating the media.

This clip pretty much sums the whole thing up .... 🙂

By showing displeasure she only stokes the fire

No doubt that she feels the need to defend her husband. However, who is she other than a wife?

She seems to be whiny, that poor thing. In this political league, that's a handicap.:coffee1:

She doesn't even look very scary, compared with some former PMs' wives at least. Just imagine the nightmares Thaksin's (ex-) wife would have caused.

Just sounding her opinion, and made the headlines
