The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the Highway Police, has seized approximately 500 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine worth more than 300 million baht on the Bang Pa-in–Nakhon Ratchasima special motorway. The drugs were found inside a four-door Isuzu pickup truck after the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving officers to secure one of the largest single seizures on the route this year.

The operation followed intelligence received from an informant indicating that a grey Isuzu pickup registered in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya would be transporting narcotics towards Nakhon Ratchasima on the night of 14 December 2025. Highway Police officers from Sub-Division 3, Division 8, Highway Police Bureau, which is responsible for Motorway No. 6, deployed surveillance teams along the route to monitor suspicious movements.

When officers identified the suspected vehicle and signalled it to slow and stop on the hard shoulder, the driver complied briefly before opening the door and running into darkness. Due to the absence of lighting in the area, police were unable to determine the direction of escape or apprehend the suspect at the scene.

A search of the abandoned pickup revealed 12 black sacks containing methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, with a total weight of about 500 kilogrammes. The drugs were located inside the passenger cabin, and the vehicle was confirmed to be the one used to transport the narcotics.

The seizure was carried out under the direction of senior CIB and Highway Police commanders, including Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chewnawasin, Pol Maj Gen Sophon Saraphat, Pol Maj Gen Phornsak Laorujiralai, and officers from Division 8 of the Highway Police Bureau. The seized drugs and vehicle were handed over to investigators at Crime Suppression Division 3 for formal legal proceedings.

Authorities said the interception prevented a major consignment of narcotics from reaching its intended destination, potentially disrupting supply networks operating across central and northeastern Thailand. The estimated street value of the drugs exceeds 300 million baht, highlighting the scale of the trafficking operation involved.

Thaitabloid reported that investigators are now working to trace the individuals and networks behind the shipment, including those who organised the transport and distribution. Police confirmed that further arrests are expected as intelligence analysis and follow-up operations continue.
