METV visa

Featured Replies

so i was reading on google you need to have 200000 thb in bank account to get this visa???

And when i check the official thai site for visa I read this

4.  Bank statement for the last 3 months with :
     – minimum balance of $2,000 (every months)
     – The name of the applicant must indicated clearly.
     – In case of submitting family bank statement a proof of relationship
(i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.

so is it 200000 thb or 2000 usd? this is lots of difference, 200000 thb is 5500 eur currently

Is it ok to give statement from thai bank? Can I send email to my bank and they send me pdf via email. will that do? I am afraid to have online bank in thailand because i have heard of many scams happening in the past

It's whatever your embassy requires. Look at the embassy website, not the e-visa website. Each embassy gets to set their own requirement, but the e-visa website has to be used by every embassy.

Any bank statement is fine with an embassy.

It doesn't have to be THB, usually it's your local currency in your local bank account

The following were the requirements for METV in Hanoi earlier this month.

I thought you had to apply for METV in your home country so Vietnam will not work for most on this forum ?

Confirmed that home country is where you apply so this only applies to Viet's or expats that can satisfy applying from there -working/married there etc.

That is generally still the rule. But there have been multiple reports of people being successful at applying for METV in Vietnam and Laos.

As of January 2026, Hanoi was issuing the METV.

My passport country is UK and I am a resident of NZ

Definitely not in my imagination.

As of 10.40 am today, The Royal Thai Embaasy in Hanoi is still indicating A bank statement in the past 6 months, showing the minimum fund of THB 20,000.- per person or THB 40,000.- per family.

Link Below:

Thai Embassy Hanoi - Tourist Visa - SETV & METV

The only variance that I can see is the cost of the actual Visa itself, US$40 against US$200.

The METV has the same conditions as the SETV, whereby it is an entry of 60 days (possible to extend by another 30 days - although no guarantees).

You theoretically would need to carry the cash of THB 20,000 per person, for every entry while the Visa remains valid until its expiry - or face rejection at the point of entry into Thailand.

Should the Embassy decide to issue an SETV instead of the METV, a clause in the formal application process, there is no refund between the two, or for that matter complete rejection

With my application "proof of funds" in my home account wasn't an issue, so I am unable to give clarity of Consul staff and their oversight while weighing up the issuing of a Visa.

so you need to have 20000 bht with you? and you can be declined when entering 2nd time? I mean what is METV for then? Can you carry euros for example?

Any equivalent currency is fine.

Does not need to be Baht.

No visa EVER guarantees entry. So yes, you can be denied entry the first time, the 2nd time, or the 10th time. It's at the discretion of the immigration office you are standing in front of.

The only thing a visa does is determine how many days you will be stamped in for if you are admitted entry.

METV is safer than trying to enter for ~9 months visa exempt, but it's still not a guarantee. Many, many reports of people being stopped and interrogated on their 2nd or 3rd METV entry after doing a 60+30, then a short trip out and repeating.

Don't understand.

I stated that you can have money in any currency. Do not have to be baht.
