How common are bum guns in urban condos/apartments in the Philippines?

Featured Replies

Although I've decided I'm well satisfied living exactly where I am in Jomtien Thailand, I can't ignore the real possibility that I might be forced out of Thailand someday for assorted reasons.

So I continue to keep a Plan B in mind just in case.

The Philippines is high on my Plan B list.

The only question would be where in the Philippines.

I had previously been most interested in both Baguio and Iloilo (I've never been to either though) but recently my top interest has shifted (again) to Bacolod (also never been).

I've ruled out Dumaguete, Cebu City. Davao, and Manila (been to those before except Davao).

But the main question I have here is that I've watched a bunch of condo tour videos recently and I can't see bum guns in the toilets!

What's up with that?

According to AI they're common and popular in urban Philippines. But are they really? Do tell (do spray).

When you move to the Phillippines, it is likely that bum guns will be the least of your worries.

I have a good idea of the problems there,

When you move anywhere, you trade one set of pros and cons for another.

As I said, I'm satisfied with Thailand but want backup options.

I could start a new topic on how my backup options have shifted (for example Colombia used to be at top but now it's out) and why but that isn't the topic here.

The topic here is BUM GUNS.

I'd have to install one, no matter where I lived, even if renting. It would be a rental deal breaker, if I couldn't fit one.

My brother (USA), has seen the light, and gone one step further, installed fancy 'Japanese toilets' as he calls them. The type at T21 / Asoke, that warms the seat, with adjustable bells & whistles for the perfect hygienic toilet experience.

Thankfully, according to G AI, seems the USA is still one of the few countries living in the stone age.

Well if I moved there, I would almost definitely rent. I think installing anything like that in a rental could be problematic. No bum gun wouldn't quite be a deal breaker, but it's definitely not good.

If it was possible to install I would talk to the landlord before renting and offer to pay for the improvement. Landlords usually like free upgrades.

Related to the renting the cost of buying vs. renting condos in places like Iloilo is insane! Renting is a much better value.

Installing a so-called Bum Gun is a completely elementary matter.

Elementary, My Son.

You just need a T connection, and then you could install one in a matter of minutes.

Or, as for me: I have modified my bathroom toilet to accommodate TWO Bum Guns.

I use them Simultaneously, and I mean...WHY NOT?

I have TWO HANDS, and so using fewer than TWO BUM GUNS would just be a waste of my time.

Two is best.

And, any plumber worth his salt can make this modification in a matter of minutes, as I have stated.

The lack of a Bum Gun should never represent a deal-breaker if one has found a Condo that otherwise suits the individual client.

The cost is minimal, and is only a small fraction of one month's rent.

Alimentary surely.

Well I just saw another Bacolod condo tour video where they did have a bum gun. It's possible that sometimes the camera angle obscures it. It's not something someone filing a tour would generally go out of their way to focus on.

Bum guns should be a made legal requirement the world over.

It makes me feel physically sick when I'm in the UK thinking of all those ****** arses walking bout.

Perhaps, if one is to mention the unmentionable in polite company.

Pardon me, but I'm objectively very slow on mechanical stuff. It must have really disappointed my Dad who was an engineer and could fix anything before computers.

So are you saying that any existing plumbing on any existing toilet could easily be altered without the need for any new plumbing connections from the wall? It seems so. I think such a thing even that easy would still need approval by landlords.

I am saying that you (meaning a plumber with tools) could easily fit a T-connection to the water pipe that feeds the toilet, in most cases.

And, this would be as simple as pie.

And, it could be restored to the original condition, very easily, just by removing the T-connection.

Yes, and I doubt any landlord would care at all if any tenent did this.

The only difficulty might arise if the water pipe to the toilet is not visible or easily accessible, which is not the case with most toilet fixtures in this part of the world.

Get yourself a portable butthose gun, battery powered or pump action that you can take anywhere and there’s plenty available now for the upcoming songkran soaker.

Yes, bum guns a plenty. Also, best put the paper in the trash can and not in the toilet as they can burn the paper with a bit of poop, as opposed to sewer system to the sea dealing with that.
