The Philippines' Department of Agriculture (DA) has cautioned the public against spreading misinformation regarding its Swine Repopulation Project (SRP). This initiative aims to restore and maintain the pig population in the country by establishing an efficient breeder base system, which involves source, multiplier, and production farms, while adhering to scientific and bio-secure production standards. These measures are expected to stabilize pork prices and strengthen the country's pig industry sustainably.

The DA clarifies that the SRP is a three-year program designed to address challenges posed by the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak. The project forms part of the ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of ASF by rebuilding the swine population and ensuring industry resilience. Emphasizing the importance of accurate information, the DA urges the public to rely solely on the agency's official platforms for verified updates on the SRP.

In response to the concerns, industry experts believe that the successful implementation of the SRP could boost local pork supply and lower consumer prices. However, the program's effectiveness will largely depend on stringent biosecurity measures and effective communication. Looking ahead, the DA's focus remains on ramping up SRP efforts while dispelling rumors that could hinder progress.
