The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran lurched toward collapse overnight after American forces launched retaliatory strikes on a key Iranian oil port in the Strait of Hormuz following attacks on US Navy destroyers transiting the vital waterway.

Massive explosions rocked Iran’s Qeshm Island late Thursday, with Iranian state television confirming blasts erupted at the Bahman pier during what it described as an active “exchange of fire” between Iranian forces and “the enemy.”

Fox News reported that additional airstrikes hit the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, a crucial hub for Tehran’s naval and oil operations.

Despite the dramatic escalation, US officials insisted the bombardment did not signal a return to full-scale war.

President Donald Trump brushed off the strikes during a phone interview with ABC News, bizarrely describing the military retaliation as merely “a love tap.”

“It’s just a love tap,” Trump said. “The ceasefire is going. It’s in effect.”

But the scenes unfolding in the Gulf suggested anything but peace.

Destroyers Attacked In Strait Of Hormuz

Trump revealed three US Navy destroyers came under missile, drone and small-boat attack while moving through the Strait of Hormuz — the narrow choke point through which roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply passes.

In a furious post on Truth Social, Trump claimed the American warships emerged unscathed while Iranian forces were “completely destroyed.”

“Three World Class American Destroyers just transited, very successfully, out of the Strait of Hormuz, under fire,” Trump wrote.

“There was no damage done to the three Destroyers, but great damage done to the Iranian attackers.”

According to the president, Iranian missiles were intercepted while drones were “incinerated while in the air.”

“These boats went to the bottom of the Sea, quickly and efficiently,” he added.

Trump then launched into another blistering attack on Tehran’s leadership.

“They are led by LUNATICS,” he wrote. “If they had the chance to use a Nuclear Weapon, they would do it.”

Iran’s top joint military command accused the US of striking civilian areas “with the cooperation of some regional countries,” raising fears the conflict could rapidly spread across the Gulf once again.

Secret Peace Deal Being Negotiated

Even as bombs fell, frantic diplomacy continued behind closed doors.

The White House is reportedly pushing a one-page, 14-point memorandum aimed at permanently ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports, senior Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are negotiating directly with Iranian officials.

The proposed framework would reportedly suspend US sanctions, release billions in frozen Iranian assets and establish new limits on Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Iran would halt uranium enrichment for up to 15 years under the draft proposal, while also removing highly enriched uranium stockpiles from the country.

The emerging framework bears striking similarities to the 2015 Obama-era nuclear agreement that Trump once denounced as “the worst deal ever.”

Oil Prices Crash As Markets Smell Deal

Financial markets reacted instantly to reports of a possible breakthrough.

Brent crude plunged more than 10 percent to below $100 a barrel amid hopes the Strait of Hormuz could soon reopen fully.

US stock futures surged, with Dow futures climbing 1.1 percent while Nasdaq futures jumped 1.6 percent.

But behind the scenes, Israel is reportedly already preparing fresh military operations if negotiations fail.

According to CNN, Israeli planners have drawn up new strike packages targeting senior Iranian officials and critical energy infrastructure should Tehran back away from concessions.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to favour a short but intense campaign designed to force Iran into even greater compromises.

Middle East Balance Shifting Rapidly

The latest clashes underline how dangerously unstable the region remains despite the supposed ceasefire agreed earlier this year.

Iran-backed militias, Gulf Arab states, Israel and the United States all remain locked in a volatile standoff as the world economy hangs on the fate of one narrow shipping lane.

With global oil supplies already strained and airlines slashing flights over fuel fears, the Strait of Hormuz has become the most dangerous flashpoint on Earth.

And despite Trump’s insistence the war is “over quickly,” Thursday night’s explosions suggested the Middle East may be nowhere near the end of this crisis.
