Vietnam's fourth annual banh mi festival in Ho Chi Minh City attracted 250,000 visitors over four days from April 23 to 26, the largest turnout since its inception. The event focused heavily on food safety and hygiene, reflecting concerns that organizers addressed through rigorous monitoring and inspections.

This year, hot weather increased risks related to ingredient quality such as pate, pickles, and sausages. Organizers collaborated with relevant agencies to ensure compliance with safety standards. Measures included random sample testing, vendor monitoring, and requiring staff to wear gloves and masks.

Despite the heat, the festival reported no major food safety incidents. This emphasis on safety was crucial due to recent food poisoning incidents involving banh mi in Ho Chi Minh City and nearby areas. Strict rules were enforced about vendor compliance, with immediate suspension as a penalty for violations.

The festival's success has drawn international interest, with a U.S. company considering support for future editions overseas. Efforts are underway to potentially expand the festival to Singapore, as indicated by the Vietnamese diplomatic mission's ongoing discussions.
