Q: Excuse me do you know just what day of the week it is
A: Well that depends on the month we are in.
Q: Well let's say May for example.
A: Could you narrow it down a bit more by what year you are referring to.
Q: How about 2026.
A: And the decade.
Q; Perhaps the century
A: No there's no need for that.

Where I live the mole patrol ( local ladies ) go for their daily walk. They all wear the same colour T shirts but a different color every day, very similar to the Pattaya garbos who wear overalls.

Thailand has a colour for each day of the week and some people wear that coloured clothing on that day

I like the typical Seinfeld/New York response.

To a tourist lost in New York: 'Can you tell me where I am?'

Bystander reply: 'Earth'

MODS need to moderate out some slop! 😆

Only know what day it is, when planning an O&A, as prefer to start on a Monday (weekday), and gives us up to 12 day. Only needing to deal with one congested, accommodation price jacked up weekend.

I never knew this so I asked AI....

In Thailand, this tradition stems from ancient astrological beliefs influenced by Hindu mythology, where each day of the week is linked to a specific celestial body and a protective deity who has their own designated color.

Knowing the color calendar is a huge part of local culture. Most Thai people know exactly what day of the week they were born, and that day's color becomes their personal "lucky color" for life.

How the Tradition is Practiced Today

While dressing strictly by the color of the day has faded slightly out of daily fashion for the general public, you will still see it everywhere in specific, powerful contexts:

  • Royal Reverence: Yellow is the single most prominent day-color you will notice in Thailand. Both the late, highly-revered King Rama IX and the current King Rama X were born on a Monday. Because of this, yellow represents the King. On Mondays, royal birthdays, or major national holidays, a massive percentage of the population, government workers, and school students will wear yellow shirts as a sign of respect.

  • The Mother's Day Blue: Queen Mother Sirikit was born on a Friday, so light blue is her color. On Mother's Day in Thailand (which falls on her birthday), the streets turn into a sea of sky blue.

  • Fun Fact (Tiger Woods): You might know that the legendary golfer Tiger Woods famously wears a red polo shirt on the final round of every tournament, which is always played on a Sunday. This isn't just a random fashion choice—his mother, Kultida, is Thai. She told him early in his career that he needed to wear his "power color" for good luck on Sundays!

That's good. On Thursday I dress as a BKK mocy taxi rider.

Where's Uranus?

In my case as I've got older I have no idea of the dates but one thing I do know is today is the precurser to tomorrow.
