OK, Dumb question (and I have been around ThaiVisa.com for the best part of 20 years) ......where is the pinned topic,

I don't recall much debate around this LTV but, yes, I have read some topics on the subject.

I know the search function on here has always been poor but, I mean, a search of "LTR Wealthy Pensioners" just brings up our 3 posts..

To find threads on any topic add"aseannow"

So google "LTR visa aseannow" and threads regarding that topic will be in results

I don't have a specific question. But I am aware that of the five LTR's arranged by BOI and IMM, the LTR-P is - by far - the most popular. As I said, it was just an idea, please delete the thread if necessary. I'm in a FB group for LTRs and everyday there seems to be a question about LTR-P, that's what raised the idea to me for an AN thread. At least that was my thinking. From reading random posts, the most confusing seems to be the digital nomad variation..

For good reason. I have not read one report of those having obtained LTR not singing praise about having obtained one.

I myself looked into it however my income was tad below the required amount.

ChatGp response to what is the LTR-P visa:-

The Thai Long-Term Resident visa for Pensioners — usually called the LTR-P or “Wealthy Pensioner” category — is a 10-year visa aimed at retirees aged 50+. It is administered by the Thai Board of Investment (BOI), not standard immigration. (LTR Visa Thailand)

The official BOI portal is:

Thailand LTR Visa Portal

Main requirements for the LTR-P (Wealthy Pensioner)

Age

You must be:

Income requirement

You need passive / unearned income, not salary.

Accepted income types include:

  • pensions

  • dividends

  • rental income

  • interest

  • realized investment gains

Standard route

You need:

Lower-income route

If your passive income is:

  • between USD 40,000 and USD 79,999/year

then you must ALSO invest at least:

Acceptable Thai investments

The USD 250k investment can be one or a combination of:

  • Thai government bonds

  • direct investment in Thai companies

  • Thai property / condominium ownership (in your own name) (LTR Visa Thailand)

The investment generally must already exist before applying.

Health insurance / financial security requirement

You must have ONE of the following:

  • Health insurance with minimum coverage of USD 50,000

  • Thai social security coverage

  • OR a deposit of at least USD 100,000 in a bank account held for at least 12 months. (LTR Visa Thailand)

Many applicants reportedly use overseas insurance policies if they clearly show sufficient coverage. (Reddit)

Visa benefits

The LTR-P gives several advantages over the standard retirement visa:

  • 10-year visa (issued as 5 + 5 years)

  • annual reporting instead of 90-day reporting

  • multiple re-entry permit included

  • fast-track immigration lanes at airports

  • easier work permission for consulting/business activities

  • potential tax advantages on foreign-sourced income remitted into Thailand under current rules (LTR Visa Thailand)

Dependents

You can include:

  • spouse

  • children under 20

Maximum normally:

Costs

Current government fee is approximately:

  • 50,000 THB per person for the visa issuance.
(Separate from insurance, legal help, translations, etc.) (Juslaws)

Application process

  1. Apply online through BOI

  2. Upload financial and supporting documents

  3. BOI reviews and issues qualification endorsement

  4. Visa issued either:

Important practical point

The LTR-P is very different from the normal retirement visa (Non-O / O-A):

Feature

LTR-P

Standard Retirement Visa

Validity

10 years

1 year renewals

Financial test

USD income/investments

THB 800k bank or income

Reporting

Annual

Every 90 days

Work rights

Easier

Very limited

Target applicant

Wealthy retirees

General retirees

Official document checklist

BOI’s current required document page:

LTR Required Documents Page

If you want, I can also explain:

  • how difficult approval actually is in practice

  • what documents retirees commonly struggle with

  • whether LTR-P is better than a standard retirement visa for your situation

  • tax implications for UK pensioners or investment income

  • whether your existing insurance would likely qualify.

It was pinned for over a year. But once the chatter died down, it was un-pinned.

I have the LTR-P. I am very pleased with it. However, when I recently arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport I could not find the fast track lane despite asking three different staff members. I eventually gave up and just went into the general entry hall with everyone else. Can anyone tell me what to look for the next time I am returning to Suvarnabhumi. Thank in advance.

You are as always well aware of what is going on. I fail to understand why anyone with ANY question concerning the LTR should just contact the BOI ltr website and in this way could always get valid response. I have an LTR, the BOI people are very helpful and pleasant to work with. They are well aware what the officers making the final decision will accept as valid proof of requirements prior to sending the paperwork forward. I do check the forum to see if there are any questions but always provide my answer and suggest that the person check with the BOI folks. They have both email and phone numbers available and speak at least English (very well) and Thai of course. For some like me, the perfect visa IMHO

I came back into Thaiand last year from Seoul into CM, I didn't see any special line for LTR holders so asked a Thai official there - he took my passport and TDAC and walked me to the front of a IO officer line. But if not just go where flight crew and dips go as that is a fast lane too.

Best for anyone interested in the LTR should just contact BOI LTR folks and they have all the CORRECT answers and are willing to help anyone with questions. Website of LTR has all the benefits and contact for BOI.

For fast lane processing , when returning to Thailand, one can use also the line reserved for Diplomats etc...the outer right lane when approaching the passport checking area.

Have only read glowing reports re BOI.

Some may also opt for an agent however be aware that all the financials etc must be met (different that annual extension retirement)

In this attached thread my first post has a clear report linkfrom someone that used an agent (not really necessary)

It is a bit hard to find. Basically depends from which end of the airport you are arriving (incoming). It's 100 metres past the regular immigration queues. It's also just past the 'visa on arrival' queue - but again depending which way you arrive into the terminal. There are overhead signs or just ask the IOs that sit outside the main immigration halls. When departing, the fast track is at the far end of the airport. Once you check in, go to the back where the escalators are, turn right and go to the end of the building for fast track (unless it's changed). Regarding the BOI staff they are very good and do reply to email questions quite quickly.

DrJack54 was right, using an agent is totally unnecessary. I checked the BOI website saw the requirements of the 4 different categories - opted for wealthy pensioner and contacted the BOI. They opened an account to which I would be instructed to forward documents, really simple. They know exactly what the officials are looking for and ensure one provides the correct form. They have forms for one to fill out which are within your account. They normally ask for 2 years copies of your tax forms to ensure your income meets the requirements, for health insurance if it is a foreign company, they may ask for a letter from the insurer to make sure it spells out 50K USD hospitalization and good during your visa life (much like other visas, you must maintain the requirements while the visa is valid. Copies of pp, visas, TM 30 etc can all be uploaded easily to your BOI account, and they spell out exactly what you lack or need. They speak English well and of course Thai. Their tel nos and web site are available. Once i provide exactly what they needed, 2 weeks I was approved and I know for sure this is the perfect visa for me and my financial situation and health coverage. I did the first year in less than 8 minutes at the BOI immigration but then I left the country so the next year will be due in November and I will do it at the CM immigration as I moved back north from BKK . When I reenteed Thailand last year, the immigration people moved me through in a very short time, just checked my TDAC and ensured it had the current TM30 location. easy! I have seen a lot of queries on this forum about the LTR but best for one to check with the BOI LTR people to ensure you get accurate help.

Regarding to talking to the BOI directly. The BOI is on LINE with the name

LTR x Smart Visa TH

They responded pretty quickly to the one time I had a question.

I am a westerner with an LTR-WP and I have gone through the 'Thai citizen' line many times. I usually travel with my Thai wife, but in almost every occasion thus far, I have been waved over to a second Thai line (and hence i am no longer with my Thai wife in line). The first couple times I was expecting questions (such as 'where is your wife' - where she was in a separate line), but that never happened. Based on that experience, if I were to encounter in the future what you noted (being unable to find the fast track line) I would also be temped to try the Thai citizen line, if the lineup small. The worst that can happen, I suspect, is that they will redirect one to a better line.

One of the few benefits of reaching the age of 70 is that I now also have the option of the fast track line.

I do that too. But I haven't tried to take my Thai spouse or family with me through fast track on basis of LTR-P. Have you tried that (or anyone else)?

Went through FastTrak twice last autumn with my Thai/U.S. wife using her Thai passport. We have been using the Thai/Senior lines inbound using separate lanes for years (and have not ever been challenged or carded)

We did that only once, when departing Phuket international airport when there as a ~30 minute line just to exit immigration, about a ~10 minute Thai citizen line to exit, and only 1 person in the 'fast track/vip' line. So my Thai wife accompanied me through the fast track - with no problem.

However that was the ONLY time we tried that ... where the remainder of the time, the Thai citizen lines were just as fast as the 'fast track'.

The thread was about LTR

Not fast track at airports

LTR has now been added to pinned topic.

Do note: At BKK, elderly no longer have access to the official Fast Track line that LTR people get to use. Elderly now use the "priority line" which is next to the main immigration line, near the entrance to the Thai Citizen line.

It's changed. Now much more central again.

There are 2 Fast Tracks for departure. One on the far side (also where crew go), and the one in the middle.

This is an old image but the one shown centrally here has been accessed from the far end for a while now (past check in row W). That's the one the ronnie50 was referring to I think, and the entrance has recently been moved back to the central position.
