The Dearth of Critical Thinking in America

The left controls virtually all aspects of education in the US

The video above sounds like mostly exaggerated one-sided biased BS ... probably with some hidden agenda.

The education system is primarily designed to prepare students for jobs/work.

If no one works, society collapses. So it makes sense. It's a survival mechanism.

Seriously, only when or if AI starts to replace jobs, then maybe the education system will be completely revamped. But in the meantime, it works fine.

But then there are University programs ... liberal arts degrees ... that are arguably "intellectual" ... but probably putting a whole lot of garbage into people's minds because they have political agendas.

You can teach yourself some things, but many people are lazy.

It would have to be done outside the education system.

But I don't believe most people are stupid. A lot of people are good survivalists. They learn how to make money in real estate, the stock market, whatever they need to survive better. Many people are highly skilled at something and self-taught and do well with their skills.

Agree that many are, but that's an all over thing. This is another on the topic, but explains the thinking behind some Many never even visit the US but still think they know it, along with vacationers who go to a few places and think they know all about the food there.................https://inews.co.uk/opinion/american-sick-brits-thinking-dumb-3351983

Did you go to school in the US?

Critical thinking is so Passé. We are in the age of yelling. The loudest cowards usually group together so their screams obliterate any attempt to discuss anything they determine doesn't meet what they have decided is import or true.

We are left with silly forums like this where is discussion is impossible.

The parents virtually control all aspects of education. Education does not begin/end at the school doorway. Just a ½ hour of parental involvement every day would make a huge difference.

Is this an example of critical thinking?

Well, you can't expect the other guy not to hit below the belt and play dirty when you challenge their political views.

Doesn't mean discussion is impossible.

But you may need to fight to get your point across.

I posted a video of a guy debating with an Israeli ... he was literally shouting throughout the entire debate. Sometimes you need to shout to be heard.

Why do you ask? Are you implying I'm not a critical thinker?

It is just a statement of fact. Do you believe otherwise?

No, because you said: "Seriously, only when or if AI starts to replace jobs, then maybe the education system will be completely revamped. But in the meantime, it works fine."

We gave you the PC 49 years ago and you still haven't figured out how to post a simple forum message. I suggest you show a little more gratitude.

Sarcasm? I think hitting below the belt and screaming is wrong 99% of the time. I'm guilty of doing it myself but would like to think it is rare. Screaming is not normal or productive online. I've known individuals that have taken this approach offline and do get what they want often but at what expense?

In the US parents all too often abdicate their responsibility in determining how education works in their locale. A mere 5 to 10% vote in their local school board elections.
