What to look for in a good quality car cover?

Featured Replies

The car is going to be parked outside most of the time so need something that reflects the sun but also doesn't trap moisture inside. Any recommendations?

Something you have to take on and off?

How often?

How big is your property and do you rent or own?

Own the house, and carport not big enough to park 2 cars. The cover won't be on and off every day, maybe a couple of times a week.

Put an awning on the existing to shade the 2nd vehicle.

Covers have to fit perfectly and be installed correctly on a clean car or they do more harm than good. Dirt acts as an abrasive and the wind buffets the cover.

The car is outside the fence, impossible to make an awning.

Exactly. Any build-up of dirt or dust effectively becomes an abrasive when the wind causes the cover to move, rubbing the fabric against the paintwork. Over time, this can lead to fine scratches and paint damage.

In reality, using a car cover will almost always result in some degree of paint wear, particularly around edges, corners, and other areas where movement and friction are greatest. Even if the vehicle is spotless when covered, dust and airborne particles can still find their way underneath and create the same problem.

If your primary objective is to reduce heat build-up inside the vehicle, window shades may be a better solution, especially for the windscreen, which is responsible for much of the solar heat gain.

Another option might be a portable car canopy or shelter. Whether it is suitable depends on your specific goals and parking situation. My only concern would be its stability in stronger winds, although in adverse weather it could simply be folded away or closed when not in use.

What would I look for in a good-quality car cover? A good quality car. 😉

Not the easiest thing to put on, and that's for a small car like the Swift, you'd need 4 people to put one on a big SUV. Then there's the straps that have to be tied underneath. Certainly wouldn't want to do it too often.

Lifetime Warranty on the major components of the vehicle would be my choice, for peace of mind, if planning to keep long term.

A few car makers offer, and one car maker's warranty transfers with who ever owns it, not just the original buyer. What else does someone need ?

I wouldn't buy a new car without a Lifetime Warranty, and is a bit telling about the manufacturer if they won't stand behind their product.

OK, what's with the short edit time. Ignore my post, obviously, as missed the last word in the title. As only replied to the title. Or the part I read 😂

It looked pretty bent up.
