Featured Replies

For usa citizen is it still 60 days or had the new 30 day gone into effect?

Still 60, the date it changes to 30 not yet announced.

That's correct!

Here's what I found out from AI:

The new rule has not yet been published in the Royal Gazette.

Because it has not been gazetted, the 60-day visa exemption is still legally in effect for US citizens arriving right now.

While the Thai Cabinet approved the rollback on May 19, 2026, the legislative process is still pending:

Enforcement Timeline

  • The Legal Trigger: The rule only changes after the Ministry of Interior drafts are officially published in the Royal Gazette.

  • The Grace Period: Once published, there is a 15-day waiting period before the 30-day limit actually becomes active at border control.

  • Current Status: Until that publication happens, airport and land immigration officers are continuing to issue the 60-day stamp to arriving US citizens.

That's, the important bit.

For folk with travel to Thailand trip planned later in the year they would have 15 day window (notice) to obtain SETV eVisa. Explained in the video post above.

When the cabinet made the decision in May, it was mentioned that the new country list still needs to be finalized. Maybe there has been a delay with that process, as it might require the coordination between two or three ministeries (interior, foreign affairs, tourism) all with different agendas...

Otherwise it should have been gazetted already, as a preliminary country list was ready.

I am still of the opinion that people should not be banking on this 15 day notification period. They have NEVER given a notification anywhere near that long in the past. Just as an example, a new regulation was posted in the Royal Gazette yesterday in regards to Non-B and Non-OA visas. It was published on June 10th, effective May 28th. This is much more in line with what the government and immigration have done in the past.

I expect there are behind scenes fighting, to reduce Indian nationals from 60 day exemt to VOA (think that is 14 days) but given how they have been courting Indians to make up short fall of Chinese tourists, did Thai airways not add dozens of extra flights over the last 2 years, to lure them, i expect that Indians will be given 30 visa exempt, or to save face, have a bi lateral agreement with India to allow them 30 or 60 days.

Don't know where that idea is coming from.

More likely it will be back to previous rules and Indian nationals would obtain VOA .... 15 day stamp
