August 28, 2007 - Total Lunar Eclipse

Featured Replies

I've been looking on the Internet for information about the total lunar eclipse on August 28, 2007 (tonight) specifically for Thailand but haven't been able to find any. I did find this schedule for Singapore/Hong Kong and figure it should more or less apply to Thailand, as well. Does anybody else know how much of the eclipse we'll see and when?

Penumbral Eclipse begins: 3:53 pm Sin/HK (07:53:39 UT)

Partial Eclipse begins:4:51 pm Sin/HK (08:51:16 UT)

Total Eclipse begins:5:52 pm Sin/HK (09:52:22 UT)

Greatest Eclipse:6:37 pm Sin/HK (10:37:22 UT)

Total Eclipse ends:7:22 pm Sin/HK (11:22:24 UT)

Partial Eclipse ends:8:23 pm Sin/HK (12:23:30 UT)

Penumbral Eclipse ends: 9:21 pm Sin/HK (13:21:01 UT)

Judging by the amount of cloud here in Bangkok today, we are not going to see much. :o

Yeah, it's sunny right now in Pattaya, but the clouds are rolling in like they usually do in the afternoon this time of year.

I've done a little more research, and as we're 1 hour behind Singapore, the eclipse should peak at around 5:37 PM local time and last about 45 minutes (90 minutes from the beginning to the end of the total eclipse). I suspect it will still be little too sunny at 5:37 to see much, but if the sky is clear, I think there's a chance of seeing at least a bit of a red moon effect.

Why doesn't God plan these things at nighttime when you can actually SEE it?!

I'd complain, but complaining to God is almost as futile as complaining to MaxNet.

Far too cloudy to see much of anything, at least looking out of my office here at Rama IX, anyone else? Although it looks like it could clear up shortly.

I hope this doesn't mean my neighbors are going to be firing guns in the air to stop the 'frog eating the moon'.

6.32pm to 6.38pm - best spots to see it are in prachinburi province (reasons i dont know) :o

There was a lunar eclipse visible at night here on 4th March.
