Advice On The Process Of Buying Second Hand Car

Featured Replies

I am thinking of buying a second hand car, have seen one that I think would be suitable.

Can anyone explain the process to me?

How does one go about transferring ownership? What documents are required? Would it be easier to put it in my partner's name if I don't have a Thai driving license?

Thanks in advance

if you don't have a drivers license why are you buying a car?

Some if not all Thai insurance companies will require you to have a TL. If you have a Non-Img type visa get yourself a TL and a letter from Img will allow you to buy the car in your name.

PS. If paying cash in full for the car get it checked out 1st.

Thank you for your concern, but I do have a driving license (several in fact). I don't have a Thai driving license, as I said in the original post, and I am not sure if that is a pre-requisite of being able to register a car here.

You should be fine then, shouldn't you? :o

all parties to the rego office , vehicle in partners name , hand over cash ...................

If you don't have a Thai DL & work permit or non imm B, I'd say forget about being able to put it in your name (I may be wrong).

I personally needed my Thai DL and work permit.

PS - I'm thinking of selling my Spotless, great running '97 Honda City if you're interested!
