June 21Jun 21 Iranian negotiators have suspended high-level talks with the United States in Switzerland after protesting a series of threats made by US President Donald Trump, including warnings of military action and remarks interpreted by Tehran as threats against the safety of its delegation.Get today's headlines by email The talks, held in Burgenstock, were the first direct negotiations since Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the confrontation over the Strait of Hormuz and opening a 60-day process on Iran’s civilian nuclear programme.Negotiators Walk Out of Switzerland TalksIt was not immediately clear whether the Iranian walkout marked a permanent breakdown in negotiations or a temporary protest. Before leaving the talks, however, Iranian and US officials reportedly reached a draft agreement outlining how Washington could issue waivers easing sanctions on Iranian oil exports.Progress on Oil Sanctions and Frozen AssetsIranian officials said the proposed waivers could be issued soon and added that discussions had also advanced on the release of Iranian assets frozen in overseas bank accounts. The talks followed last week’s agreement between the two countries designed to secure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global energy supplies.Tensions rose after Trump repeatedly warned Iran to rein in the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, which has continued clashes with Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. Iranian officials argued that the US president’s comments violated the non-aggression provisions included in last week’s memorandum.Trump and Ghalibaf Exchange WarningsIran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, dismissed Trump’s threats, saying Tehran would not be influenced by pressure from Washington. The Iranian delegation also faced domestic pressure to demonstrate scepticism toward the Trump administration, contributing to the decision to leave the talks.Iran has reimposed its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, saying the move was a response to ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon. Tehran argues that Israel’s actions violate the ceasefire provisions outlined in the memorandum signed by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. On social media, Trump warned Iran to stop supporting Hezbollah and threatened further military action if it failed to do so. During an interview with Fox News, he also suggested the United States could take control of the strait if negotiations collapsed.Iran lodged a formal protest with mediators, describing Trump’s remarks as unacceptable and demanding action against what it called “bullying”.Vance Strikes More Conciliatory ToneWhile Trump adopted a confrontational approach, US Vice-President JD Vance presented a more conciliatory message in Switzerland.Vance said the administration wanted to “turn over a new leaf” with Iran and indicated Washington was prepared to transform relations if Tehran abandoned what the US describes as regional destabilisation and long-term nuclear weapons ambitions. The negotiations also involved representatives from Pakistan and Qatar, which are acting as mediators. Iran declined to appear publicly alongside the US delegation, led by Vance, along with Jared Kushner and US envoy Steve Witkoff.Nuclear Issues Remain UnresolvedIran says the immediate priorities are securing a ceasefire in Lebanon, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions on oil exports and unfreezing overseas assets. The head of the UN nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, was also present in Switzerland. However, Tehran wants discussions on future inspections of its nuclear facilities postponed until sanctions-related disputes are resolved.Under the current framework, both sides aim to settle outstanding nuclear issues, including the scope of inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency, within 60 days, although the deadline can be extended by mutual agreement.Join the discussion? June 22Jun 22 Sounds like the old Good Cop, Bad Cop routine. People need to understand Iran have to talk strongly as if the supporters view leadership as Weak then changes are made.Anyways can someone shake their car keys or give Prez T a ball to play with to distract him long enough for Vance to sign a deal.
June 22Jun 22 Iran jerks the US all over the place. They know there is no way the US will put boots on the ground. Iran knows high oil price willeventually kill the stock market, etc.
June 22Jun 22 Trump and Vance can both step aside now that billionaire Jared Kirshner has come to save the day.
June 22Jun 22 The dunce just can't keep his mouth shut, just like Israel can't control themselves and behave in a civilized manner. He would be so much more effective if he just stop mouthing off even for a few days. His love of insecurity is so intense that he just can't behave with dignity, it's completely beyond him. And that's one of the chief reasons why he's such a horrific negotiator, and has no business being in the position he's in.
June 22Jun 22 The loser can't keep his mouth shut. A toddler-like behavior pattern of an old senile clown. Can't anyone stuff an old sock into his loudspeaker?Vance, Rubio, it is long past time to take corrective action here. Depose him for insanity! NOW!

June 22Jun 22 Before the talks began, Trump hanged the outcome of these talks around the Vance's neck, alas presenting it as a joke. As soon as the talks began, Trump torpedoed them with outburst threatening Iran (to a Fox reporter), if Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz "If you close it, you won't have a country” (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=numAtHdxbLU), followed by this tweet on his wall:Wonder if Vance realises yet he's been set up for failure, and he'll be blamed for it all when this deal falls apart.
June 22Jun 22 And I should add to that - even if the deal is reached, and it's a bad one for the US (which I think is already clear it will be) - we already know who'll be blamed for selling out America. Vance.Well played, Donald!

June 22Jun 22 Trump has a point. As long as Hezbollah continues to launch missiles at israel, Israel will take defensive actions and go after Hezbollah. It is remarkable that none the critics has a problem with the presence of Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Lebanese government wants them out and has already outlawed the military wing of Hezbollah, and yet here you all are to defend Hezbollah, the proxy terrorist army of Iran. It doesn't matter to any of you that Hezbollah is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths in Syria. And it was Vance that has been pressing for a deal at any cost with iran. Trump's supporters will stay loyal, but Vance's supporters will desert him like rats from a sinking ship if the Iran conflict isn't resolved. The guy who is going to come out of this smelling like garden flowers is Rubio. He avoided the poisoned chalice of Iran politics.
June 22Jun 22 I am no supporter of Hezbollah nor israel, you state about the tens of thousands of deaths in Syria, what about. Israel atrocity's they have committed, there is two sides to a coin, Bibi already has an arrest warrant issued by the ICC,

June 22Jun 22 Israel and Hezbollah. Catch 22. Neither side is going to stop until the other side stops.Neither side was a signatory of the MOU.Neither side is at the negotiating table for a final peace agreement. I see any peace agreement they come up with lasting less than one Scaramucci.

US provides USD3.8 B annually till 2028 in a MOU which allow Israel to spend very little on its military. Its security and economy will be compromised if the MOU is reneged. The MOU is not legally binding and he can use that as a threat to stop Bibi. I doubt he will do that. He doesn;t have the gumption. This threat is just threatrics.
June 22Jun 22 Maybe if Israel withdraws completely from their illegal occupation and destruction of Lebanon Hezbollah would stop attacking them.Perhaps Israels plan is first create a buffer zone then let settlers move in who would undoubtably be attacked by Hezbollah so the buffer zone would then need extending creating even more land to be settled necessitating a further extension of the buffer zone until eventually Lebanon disappears completely.

No civilised nation or person supports Hezbollah or Hamas censorship!Lebanon has failing leadership. They can't just talk Hezbollah away as long as Iran keeps funding them.But...Israel is bomb-happy and, as I said, Israel is going to torpedo the deal. They don't want peace. They're bulldozing people's homes. Does that sound rational to you???

The war on Iran was not planned in Washington, it was planned in Tel Aviv. Bibi told Donnie it was gonna be an easy win. Israel started the war and then bailed two weeks later to kill some Lebanese.
June 22Jun 22 Diplomatic speculations so far. "We will keep on talking". No more.Best indicator: The price of Brent Crude Oil. If it drops to 70$, everything will eventually be OK. If it stays around 80 $ it would mean that "nothing is resolved".
