The United States has unveiled a travelling museum in Siem Reap, alongside a $75,000 grant to modernise the local American Corner, in a bid to deepen cultural and educational ties with Cambodia.

The Freedom 250 Founders Museum, inaugurated on Saturday by US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Cate Dillon, is part of Washington’s wider “Freedom 250” celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. Local officials, including Siem Reap Provincial Council Chairman Ly Samreth and Vice Governor Ly Sary, joined the opening ceremony.

Interactive history

The exhibition, hosted at the American Corner until 12 September, invites visitors to explore the figures and milestones of the American Revolution. Using QR codes, audiences can access animated first‑person videos of iconic Americans recounting their stories, blending traditional history with modern technology.

Chargé d’Affaires Benjamin Chiang described the project as “a unique, engaging way for Cambodian audiences to explore the people and ideas that shaped the United States and learn how American excellence continues to inspire people around the world.”

Expanding outreach

The initiative reflects the US Embassy’s push to expand its cultural footprint in Cambodia. The Founders Museum will travel to Phnom Penh’s AmCam Exchange before moving on to American Corners in Battambang and Kampong Cham.

The grant to Siem Reap’s American Corner aims to modernise facilities and broaden access to educational resources, reinforcing the centre’s role as a hub for cultural exchange.

A wider celebration

The Founders Museum is a White House initiative designed to showcase American history and innovation abroad. By highlighting the nation’s founders and heroes, the exhibition seeks to connect global audiences with the values and creativity that continue to shape the United States.

For Cambodia, the project represents a strengthening of bilateral ties through education and culture, offering students and visitors a chance to engage directly with American history in interactive form.

The museum’s arrival underscores Washington’s intent to mark its 250th birthday not only at home but also with international partners, positioning cultural diplomacy as a cornerstone of its celebrations.
