Thailand Prepares to Cut Visa-Free Stays from 60 Days to 30

Thailand is reportedly preparing to reduce visa-exempt stays from 60 days to 30 days for citizens of 60 countries, with the change expected to take effect during September. Ministry of Interior documents dated August 26 have been forwarded for publication in the Royal Gazette, with the revised rules scheduled to begin 15 days after publication. The current 60-day programme, introduced in 2024, covers 93 countries and territories, meaning the new framework would narrow both the length of permitted stays and the number of nationalities receiving the exemption. Mauritius and Seychelles would receive 15-day visa-free entry, while nationals of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia would instead be eligible for visas on arrival. Thailand would also retain a limit of two visa-exempt entries through land borders for most nationalities, while arrivals by air would have no stated numerical limit but would remain subject to immigration approval.
