A 36-year-old Chinese construction worker has died after a ten-wheeled lorry reversed over him at a data-centre construction site in Ban Chang, Rayong.

Police believe Wang Jinghong may have been in the vehicle's rear blind spot when the lorry moved backwards on 3 September 2026.

Worker died after rescue operation

Police and rescue workers were called to the front of the construction site in Moo 6, Ban Chang district, after receiving a report that a worker had been run over.

Wang was found seriously injured beneath the vehicle, near its rear right-hand wheel. Rescue personnel and site workers used an excavator to lift the lorry before he could be removed, an operation which took more than 20 minutes.

He was rushed to Ban Chang Hospital but later died from his injuries.

Initial witness accounts indicated that Wang had ridden a motorcycle to the site and parked behind the lorry, which was already stationary. The truck then reversed, with investigators suspecting the driver may not have seen either the motorcycle or Wang because they were behind the vehicle.

Driver and foreman questioned

Police Major Ekkerat Loha, an investigator at Ban Chang Police Station, coordinated detectives, rescue workers and other relevant agencies at the scene.

Officers recorded evidence and took the lorry driver and the site foreman in for detailed questioning as they seek to establish the cause of the fatality. Police are also awaiting the doctor's post-mortem findings.

Authorities have contacted Chinese consular officials to help trace Wang's relatives and to proceed under the relevant legal process.

Calls for stricter site safety

Uthai Saoman, the Ban Chang subdistrict headman, said data-centre construction projects should enforce strict internal safety measures covering working conditions, protective equipment and area controls.

He said large vehicles with blind spots should be closely monitored by safety staff and work supervisors. If investigators find safety measures were neglected, or that a supervisor was linked to negligence, authorities should take direct legal action, he added.

Uthai also called for relevant agencies to examine construction-site safety standards seriously to prevent a repeat. Claims that some information about the incident may have been concealed remain unproven and are still being checked by officials, with police evidence and the investigation needed to ensure fairness for all parties.
