A newborn boy was rescued from a rubbish bin in Rayong after residents heard him crying from inside a black plastic bag. Police examined evidence and nearby CCTV footage to try to trace the person who left the baby at the site.

The child was found on 3 September in the Song Phi Nong community, on Soi Phongdee off Suan Pa Sirikit Road, Choeng Noen, Mueang Rayong district.

Pol Sub-Lt Thongdao Khotlakkham, deputy investigation inspector at Mueang Rayong Police Station, was alerted to the discovery and went to the scene with rescuers from the Sawang Phonkusol Foundation's Rayong unit.

Baby taken to Rayong Hospital

Residents found the newborn boy, weighing about 2.8 kilograms, inside a black bag placed in a rubbish bin. He was covered with only one cloth and still had blood on his body.

His umbilical cord was still attached and was wrapped around his neck. Residents removed the baby from the bag and freed the cord before rescue workers arrived, fearing that he could be deprived of air.

Rescuers then rushed the baby to Rayong Hospital, where he remains under close medical supervision.

A local resident living in rented accommodation near the bin said a man searching through rubbish had lifted the black bag and heard what sounded like a baby crying. He put the bag down, lifted it again and heard the sound a second time.

The man called for help, and residents opened the bag to find the newborn.

Police review possible vehicle lead

Another resident said they had been sitting outside their room before the baby was discovered when they saw a pickup truck approach quickly. The vehicle slowed near the rubbish bin before driving away in haste.

However, the witness could not identify the make or colour of the pickup because the area was dark and lies in a community forest area. Police believe the vehicle may be connected to the person who abandoned the child.

Officers are questioning witnesses, checking physical evidence and reviewing CCTV cameras in the surrounding area as they try to identify the person responsible.

Much as I agree with your sentiment, I would think attempted manslaughter closer fits the situation. More likely reckless abandonment or child cruelty, just IMO of course.

I don’t know, considering that a pregnancy normally lasts 9 months. The chances of her giving birth and only then deciding to throw it away in a spur of a moment thing are probably slim. She thought about what to do with it probably for quite some time, which makes it premeditated, which is one of the main requirements for a murder charge. If you drop a baby in an area where you know that the chances of it being found there are extremely slim you can definitely get charged with murder.

You might be right - I do not profess to have detailed legal knowledge, especially in this area. I was just voicing my thoughts on the matter.

I’m not a lawyer either, but there have been definitely cases where mothers got charged with murder before because they abandoned the kid in a place where it was pretty much guaranteed that it will die.

I’d love to know whether the plastic bag in this case was tied at the top because in that case it would definitely be straight up murder because the baby would’ve run out of air.

I doubt whether the pick up driver who placed the plastic bag in the rubbish was the Mother .

The driver should be charged with attemped murder .

First find out the mothers involvement and then charge her accordingly if any crimes were comitted

Yeah well, if she gave the baby to her boyfriend, or whoever it was, to be discarded, she’s equally guilty….

Because he wasn’t mentioned in the article and I have no idea whether the guy was even still in the picture. He might have run after he found out she’s pregnant or he might be the one who drove the pickup, maybe she doesn’t even know who the father actually is. We’ll have to wait until we have more information on the case.

There’s a specific way to go about it and she hasn’t done that! You don’t give away a newborn like that. She’s guilty. There’s no two ways about it

The Father could have taken the baby away immediately , minutes after birth and the Mother being unaware of the fathers intention

True, but some illiterate and possibly underage farm girl might not know that.

I suppose this little boy will be handed over to an orphanage soon and will spend his life there until he's old enough to go out into the world. I hope nobody ever tells him this story, it would be a terrible thing to know, that when you were just an hour or two old your parents threw you into a trash can to die.
