Israel envoy discusses disinformation with Thai police

Featured Replies

Israel's ambassador to Thailand, Dr Alona Fisher-Kamm, met the commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on 2 September to discuss possible legal and investigative responses to fake news and disinformation.

The talks focused on false information that could mislead the public and have a negative impact on Israeli tourists and the Israeli community living in Thailand.

Meeting at the Central Investigation Bureau

Dr Fisher-Kamm met Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak Chaowanasai, the CIB commissioner, in a discussion on information that could cause public misunderstanding.

The two sides exchanged views on how fake news and disinformation may affect Israelis in Thailand, including visitors and members of the resident community.

No particular claims, online platforms or cases were identified in the account of the meeting. Nor were any new enforcement measures announced.

Embassy stresses accurate information

The Israeli Embassy said it attached importance to promoting accurate information. It said it would continue to work with Thai authorities to support responsible and informed access to information.

The embassy said its continuing work with Thai authorities would be aimed at encouraging more responsible access to information rather than relying on unverified reports.

She seems to have no problem getting a meeting with government people in this country. 🤔

Can have a negative impact, I know...she can leave and lead her compatriots back to their other promised land. The sooner the better

Some kind of weird conspiracy theory.

The two nations have a long history of good relations.

There seems to be bit of HYSTERIA in social media in Thailand at the moment and is true there have been some cases of misbehaving foreigners wrongly labelled at Israelis.

Recent case of some mischievous people writing No Isrealis on a White board and it was reported in the media that Israelis are banned from a restaurant and the restaurant wasn't named and the reason for the banning wasn't given .

Think it was some Muslims trying to tarnish Israel's name

Disinformation? Does this mean Israeli government propaganda?

They call it 'hasbara'

So can the Israeli envoy comment on the behaviour of this Israeli seen last week in my local 7/11?

phangan.jpg

and that is a daily occurrance on Phangan Island. I attribute it either to:

1 - The person is plain stupid and never received any kind of common-sense and good behaviour education from their parents or teachers.

2 - The person is plain arrogant, and doesn't give a flying fig what others think of their behaviour.

If this were just one individual, then I'd just shake my head and walk on by. But it happens every day and I'n getting to the point that I'm going to speak up and tell them to stop behaving like a street whore....

Its nice rage bait for here but in the end all Thailand cares about is who feeds them and, that is why they do nothing about the increasing numbers of them, same as Russians. Israelis will finally leave as this forum wishes when they find out that its not a good place to for children or elderly. Chinese have figured this out already. Russians are stuck unfortunately because they already blew their capital on beachfront condos

I'm not living here for the island 'paradise'. I base myself here between my trips into Myanmar. Good luck to the hippies over here - at least they keep their clothes on (or put them on) before going into the minimart....

But but their feelings! 😘

Zionist Feelings Matter.

How about this. You show respect to people whether Thai, Foreigner and try to live in Harmony like Thai Culture.

If this is above you there is always Myanmar or Cambodia for you.

This is the type of disinformation to which the Israeli ambassador is referring, i.e., false claims about the number of Israelis living in Thailand:

Immigration Bureau denies reports that 400,000 Israelis are staying in Thailand

Thailand's Immigration Bureau has officially denied media reports that claimed as many as 425,000 Israelis were staying in the country. Official immigration data from March 10, 2026, shows the actual number of Israeli nationals in Thailand was approximately 31,892.

The bureau stated that arrival and departure statistics for 2025 and early 2026 show a normal flow of travelers and do not indicate an unusual build-up of people remaining in the country.

In 2025, there were false reports of Israelis "taking over" Pai:

Anutin swats away misinformation in Pai

Interior minister visits northern tourist town to address flap over Israeli tourists

Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Wednesday dismissed reports suggesting that Israeli tourists had “taken over” the resort town of Pai in northern Thailand, calling the claims exaggerated.

Citing the provincial governor, he said reports about Israeli tourists had been blown out of proportion. He reassured the public that the visitors posed no risk to national security or the local community.

It's also possible the Israeli ambassador called the attention of Thai officials to false social media posts about Chabad Houses and synagogues.

Topics such as this brings out the best of the posters eager to show their hate and loathing to Israel and its's people, I was advised by the moderators of this site to report any anti-Semites hate content to them.

Reporting antisemitic posts to the Mods is the best way to deal with them. Don't answer those posts directly, but report them instead. I would urge any other board member who's bothered by antisemitic posts to do the same.

The Mods have been very fair in hiding the worst of the antisemitic posts.

I'd prefer the posts to stay up. Has no effect on anything other than informing the web the types of foreigners in thailand

Blatant antisemitic and racist posts should be hidden and the posters penalized. Otherwise the board will fill with such posts and the arguments they cause will drown the threads. It's a very bad development for any forum to gain the reputation of tolerating antisemitic and racist posts. Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, radical Islamists and left-wing antisemites will flock to any site that allows their posts to stay up.
