Dominican Republic wins Miss World in Nha Trang

Joheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic has been crowned Miss World 2026 in Nha Trang, giving Vietnam its first turn as host of the international pageant.

A landmark finale for Vietnam

The 24-year-old took the crown at the 73rd edition’s grand finale, held at April 2 Square in the coastal province of Khanh Hoa. She succeeded Thailand’s Opal Suchata, who handed over the title during the ceremony.

Dominguez finished ahead of 110 other contestants. Before the final night, she had won the Americas and Caribbean Top Model fast-track event. Malaysia’s representative was named first runner-up and Spain’s contestant took second runner-up.

Education project takes centre stage

A model, teacher and reporter, Dominguez leads Voices of Tomorrow, a social project focused on improving English-language learning opportunities for children and young people in underprivileged communities.

Asked about community work and the pageant’s Beauty With a Purpose mission, she described language as a practical tool that helps young people express themselves, share perspectives and pursue long-term opportunities. She said expanding access to English was the commitment she intended to keep championing.

Vietnam reaches its best result

Host-nation contestant Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc made the top six with entrants from Eritrea, Malaysia, the Dominican Republic, Spain and South Africa, Vietnam’s highest placement in the competition’s history. In the final question segment, Bao Ngoc said her parents, both doctors, had shaped her understanding of dedication and service, and that she hopes to contribute through public policy.

What it means for foreigners in Vietnam

For visitors and residents, the event put Nha Trang and Khanh Hoa in front of a large international audience while bringing a major live production to the coastal city. It also highlighted Vietnam’s growing ability to host global cultural events beyond its largest cities. Travellers visiting Nha Trang for future festivals should expect central venues and the waterfront area to become busier around major event dates.
