Is cannabis actually addictive?

Featured Replies

I hear many people say regular cannabis use can result in dependency, that once you start using it, you will eventually move on to harder drugs, etc.

Personally, I don't see that.

Of course, everyone's experiences with things can be very different. But I am pretty much a daily user when I am in Thailand. Why? Because it relaxes me, I enjoy the feeling, it reduces anxiety, increases libido, enhances sex, and because I have easy, affordable access to it and can consume it legally.

So how do I know I'm not addicted?

Because as soon as I leave Thailand for a holiday, I stop using it immediately. Cold turkey. No coming off it slowly. I simply stop the moment I get on that plane.

Is it difficult when I stop using it like that?

Not at all. I simply forget about it.

Right now, I am outside of Thailand and I haven't had any in nearly three weeks. Moreover, I haven't even thought about it once except to make this post.

So are there any downsides?

Not really. A bit of lethargy, and I do suffer from short term memory loss while it is active in my system, but if I stop for a day or two, memory comes back. And I think short term memory decreases with age anyway. But is any of that a big problem? No. I make notes and write important things down immediately so I don't forget them. Problem solved.

And the big question: Have I picked up other drug habits as a result?

If you can call eating a drug habit, then maybe. I do tend to binge eat at times when I'm on it. But nothing severe. I just need to keep the peanut butter and chocolate out of sight at times, and then I am pretty safe.

So I'm curious what other people experience. I expect most people are either similar or the same as me.

You notice a drug is really addictive when you start cancelling other activities for the sake of consuming the drug on your own.

Physically addicting ... NO

That knowledge from experience. There are no physical withdrawal symptoms at all.

That's a good way of looking at it. I often like to be at home alone when I'm consuming it, but that doesn't involve canceling other activities. If I have something scheduled or something I must take care of then I typically don't use it until I my schedule is free again.
