So I am new to BKK and go to a go-go bar in Patpong. There was a girl there cuddlin by me and trying to get my money. She screws up my order and gets me a T-bone steak. Dude brings it out and I'm like "I didn't want this, I'm not paying for it". She flips out and says she has to pay for it now and how sure she is I ordered it and saying all this stuff about the thai police. I'm like "I'm not payin, sorry" and leave. As I'm walking out she is yelling stuff at the various bouncers and pointing at me. I live near patpong and will probably walk by that place quite a bit.

Sorry if this sounds weird, but I am new to BKK and dunno how dodgy this area actually is so generally try not to piss off people even if they are obviously wrong/scum. I have absolutely nothing to worry about here though in terms of some kinda retaliation right?

Well if you go back you might.....

Mates went to a bar and ordered 3 drafts, one of my mates got pissed off for some unknown reason and said fk it and said lets leg it. (drafts hadnt arrived yet) We walk out and all hel_l breaks loose, next thing we know we are surrounded by 20 thai(s) with ill-intentions. You order you pay - be honest I'm surprised you made it out of the place without paying.

So, the concensous of this forum is I need to make things better before they freak out? I actually got the girls number and was going to meet her when she gets off work. She ended up just makin me mad while I was talkin to her though. I could call her and just give her the 200 baht or walk in and just pay them. If 200 baht saves me from even a 1% chance of getting jumped by a bunch of nutty thais then I'll pay (when I'm sober..).

Where sells T-Bone steaks where the girl cuddles you?

Kings corner 1 or 2 IIRC. Cheap+good food too.

Is that the lady boy one?

definately wasn't a lady boy one. I could easily be wrong on the name though.

a belligerent attitude when pointing out or querying staff mistakes , especially when followed by refusals to pay and a walk out , and especially in a nightlife area like patpong can often result in a beating , possibly severe ,by a large number of thais who suddenly materialise out of thin air.

mistakes and misunderstandings have to handled calmly and with diplomacy which is not the normal way for westerners with our accusatory and "i know my rights" attitudes.

Indeed we went back in said gogo and drank the cold draft that was waiting for us. Paid up then left. I'm quite confident if we hadn't gone back in and paid - we'd be in the hospital. I believe they have a neighbourhood watch like scenario - one business encounters problems they all come to each others aid.

Yeah, I really wasn't sure what to do besides pay in terms of "diplomacy". I sorta gave a shortened version in my post. I was actually very polite and was like "can I please speak to your boss". She is like "my boss is police, do you want to speak to police" I said "I wanna speak to your boss" but she wouldn't get her boss. The waiter eventually said "its OK" even though the girl was still freaking out. I left thinking things were OK with the establishment. Her yelling and the bouncers +pointing to me was what freaked me out.

Not ordered.

In faireness the drafts hadnt even been poured yet, but it didnt really matter because they wouldnt cancel the order. :o

if the customer doesnt pay for the order , then the cost will come out of the waitresses wages , same goes for mistakes with change. many businesses here operate like that.

(i was in a bangkok bar called gullivers with some friends recently , and a waiter came over to me with an order slip from a month previously when i had had a snack there whilst sitting with the same friends , the waiter said i hadnt paid for the food and it had been deducted from his wages , i had actually paid for it by leaving money with my friends who stayed on after i left.

we spoke to the management and asked to see the till receipt from that day , but they were unwilling to produce them , needless to say we didnt pay again.)

One more note. At this place they make you sign the piece of paper when you order something.

I never had the oportunity to sign for the food. It just came. Bottom line is I am scared none of this matter and girl yelling at bouncer +pointing at farong = beating for farong.

Makes you wonder what will happen when they enforce the non smoking ban in bars/pubs and people stepping outside for a smoke.

If its bothering you, go back, ask to see the manager as soon as you enter, be calm and smiling,., buy him a drink, tell you were were a little pissed , misunderstood and panicked, should be fine,.

call me naive - but having spent 14 years in thailand i didnt know you could get a t bone steak in a go go bar (bone on yes)

As we all know thais are very good at making mis - steaks with orders, and they dont understand that they should correct a mistake at their own cost. I personally have learned to just accept this for the sake (or steak) of good order (or bad order) especially if it is for such a small amount. Why make such a big deal especially if you are so concerned. Yes, its not right but is it really worth the hassle.

Try eating at restaurants instead of go go bars :o

It is like that scene in "Sin City" when all the hookers suddenly materialize from nowhere and waste all those gangsters. I know we are talking about Patpong, but I always get that image if I happen to walk past Cowboy.

Try eating at places that are designed for eating. Shouldn't you be on some pattaya forum??? :o

Taxexile, if the staff at Gullivers said they were not paid for your order then they were not paid for your order. Trust me I know. Your friends may have forgotten.

As for the OP, don't fret about it. Go back in and make some nonsense excuse (as this is tolerated in Thailand) about a 'misunderstanding' or that you were ill that night. Pay the bill and leave a tip. Done. Forget about it, but avoid the place in the future.

Don't get to freaked out abouth this looming threat from Thais. I had an 'issue' on cowboy one night. I ordered a Smirinoff cocktail and was presented with something like battery acid. I complained very politely and they took liberties. So I screwed the money up and dumped it in the drink and dumped the........well! lets just say I'm not welcome there anymore. The bouncers gave me a bit of a stare, but I just shrugged. I have sat across from said bar several times. On the first occasion or so one of the doormen swaggered about a bit. I just ignored him and that was that.

I have had the same thing happen to me in Gullivers. I was in there one night, and I paid my bill and left. I had been talking to a few people (Expats) who I casually know but left without them. I went back in a day later and was basically accused of not paying my bill. I was basicaly threatened by a couple of numptey's to pay the bill or else. There argument was that they had not paid their bill, and as I was speaking to them that evening for a breif time then I was responsible. It was only a small amount, which had probably been overlooked that evening, but what I didn't like was the attitue shown by a couple of the little jesters who were all of sudden very brave in there group of 7. As it was, I paid the bill and told the boss he was a complete and utter #$%@* , he then had the audacity to try and apologise to me and get me to stay and have a drink. So, if you're in Gullivers be careful, becausee if you speak to someone you could end up being responsible for their bill.

I have subsequently not been back in there as there are plenty of better and more hospitable places to drink. BTW, most of the waiting staff in there are fine, no problem with them at all.

So how do you know that your friends actually paid for it?

Sorry, but it doesn't seem like a scam to me.
