Please Help Me Understand The Phone Line/isp System

I hope someone can explain how this all works, I've read all the posts and decided that I want a phone line from TT&T and ADSL from CAT. I'm moving into a new house in Eakmongkol vilage the new one on soi 4 off Phayapruk rd. Jomtiem. Went in to TT&T office in carefore with my T/W and did the paperwork for them to check to see if there is a line available, they called back the next day and told us that the "box" was full and would have to wait until they decide to install another box, I guess the box theya re talking about is some sort of exchange for that area, hard to believe the developer didn't make some kind of arangements for telephone services when he started the project. Anyway while we were at the TT&T office, I asked the sales girl if we could sign up for the CAT internet service, she said no we would have to use TT&T provided Max net.

Does CAT provide phone lines? We are going to check with TOT to see if they have a line available but how does that work, if you get a line from one phone service provider and decide to change do they have to run a new line or use the exhisting line that was run by another company?

Someone please explain this system to me.

Thanks in advance for any info.

It's quite simple.

TOT is the only company that sells their DSL service wholesale. So any company you see advertising DSL (except MaxNet and True), requires a phone line from TOT. TOT manages the whole network for this. The only thing that is different is the last hop router and exchange you get directed to. If you have a problem with your DSL going up and down, changing ISP's won't help you, because they all resell TOT.

If you live in the provinces and use TT&T, you can only use TT&T internet. Same in Bangkok if you have a line from True, then you can only get True.

In Pattaya your options are:

#1) Get a TOT phone line, and then choose among several providers who resell TOT.

#2) Get a TT&T phone line, and use MaxNet

#3) Go with satellite

#4) Go with Hutch CDMA wireless service

#5) Go with GPRS from AIS/DTAC/True

#6) Get an expensive leased circuit (prepare for 20k/month)

#7) Go without and use an internet cafe

The only cost effective/performance strategies are 1 and 2.

There is another way, but it's not technically legal. That is, if you can find a shophouse or other building where you have line of sight between your rooftops (not more than 10 km), and that building can get a phone line/internet, and you can make a deal with the owner of that building, then you can install to that building and do a wireless backhaul to your house. Be advised that isn't legal however, and if you get caught there is no recourse besides paying the guys in brown.

Several companies are preparing to offer WiMax services. They might be available by 2009. If you can wait for that, your options might increase.

Some ISPs are also phone line providers, some aren't. Some allow their ADSL service to be used with another company's phone lines, some don't.

The phone line providers for Bangkok are True and TOT. The phone providers for the provinces are TOT and TT&T. All three also have ADSL services.

You'll have to check with the providers about which works with which, since it's subject to change.

Thanks for the responses, we are now checking with TOT to see if they have a line available. I really didn't want to go with TOT as I have read so many posts complaining about the ADSL service with TOT but no I don't have any other choice due to TT&T don't have any lines available now.

Actually you can use other ISPs with your TOT phone line. You are not required to use only TOT.
