Tax On Overseas Mail

Featured Replies

hey

i want to order from the US about 30 clocks, each costs 10$ and the shipping is 45$.

do i need to pay tax on this ? how does it work ? and is there away to pay little or no tax on this items.

thanks a lot

you can try marking as gift with a low purchase rate.

hope they don't open it!

It may be that one cannot make sense out of non-sense but I keep trying.

It seems to me that small packages posted to Thailand get through without duty while larger packages always engender duty even if the amount is small.

Also, the country of origin may have something to do with it. Posts from Australia have yet to generate a duty while the U.S. origin posts seem to get hit each time.

I am inclned to say you will pay 30% duty based on the value plus the shipping cost.

My last 3kg package from the U.S. had an actual and declared value including shipping of $90 and the duty was 650 Baht.

A week before, a $200 value package, not including the shipping, got through without duty.

I know this is not very definitive other than to say the smaller the package and the lower the declared value, the less duty you will pay, if you pay any at all.
