Tywais
I bought my car in Bangkok and drove it to Chiangmai with no problems. Took about 8 hours, but that was several years ago with a lot of road construction on the Lampang-Chiangmai leg. Understand the roads are pretty good now. BossHogg
yeh about 8 hours including stops.....can be done in less but i guess you may have Thai significant other with you , so have to eat every two hours.Even so, 8 hours is a good guide Edited October 10, 2007 by BossHogg
pilou
Hi I just did it last month, if you can, avoid driving by night, some parts of the road have no horizontal markings , quite dangerous when it is pitch dark... We stopped on the way to visit Sukhotai old city, a bit off course, but it was worth the detour. Take it easy and make regular "pitstops" , and beware of all the loonies out there. Be safe, have a nice trip. Phil

BossHogg
I agree with Pilou, dont even consider doing the journey at night! Too many crazed lorry drivers, motorbikes on the wrong side of the without headlights, random drunk drivers, and generel loonies I too would stop at one of the towns on the way.Sukhotai isnt that big a detour.Or Kampeang Phet , Pilok, Ayuthaya etc....When are you planning on going? next month is Loi Kratong and Sukhotai is a great place to be for this festival
