Falang / Thai Baby Born In The Uk

Featured Replies

Hello all.

My Thai wife has just had a little girl and I was wondering what the process is to register so that she gets dual nationality and also if there is a lime limit on registration.

Thanks

Contact The Thai Embassy in the Uk .

Slippery, do a search in the Visa's section (or this could be moved there). Plenty of useful info and knowledgeable chaps.

Last I heard half Thai babys with a falang father do not get Thai citizenship, only half babies with a Thai father. That could of course be horribly wrong, I just vaguely remember that in a thread here at one time.

I think if i remember rightly you will need birth certificate, marriage certificate, passports and i.ds, and possibly thai house registration. You will then get a thai birth certificate and then proceed to thai passport for your child.

horribly wrong information damianmavis.

Op, have look at the link for the thai embassy in London passport section.

Apparently (from friends who have got their kids thai pp there) it takes all day & sometimes you have to come back as the process is so slow!!! :o I have to get my sons pp soon so will report back.

Its done by prior appointment at the Thai Embassy in London in person see Instructions for applying for a childs birth certificate

I think if you want the passport you will have to wait a long time i think somewhere in the region of 4+ weeks as they have to send it to thailand and back to process. But if you are travelling in a short period of time they will give you a one way passport and then you can get it whilst you are here!! Thats what i done anyway!!

thanks for all of your wonderful replies.

I'm not too worried about a psssport at this stage, just the birth certificate. Just want to register the birth of our little girl with the Thai authorities so that she has a choice of either living in the UK or Thailand when she is older. Passport can be obtained at a latr stage.

Thanks

from the thai embassy website it seems that the passport is done at the same time as the birth cert anyway. I called yesterday for my sons & they offered me an appointment for today so it doesn't look like it should be a problem. I suppose how easy it should be to get there depends on where you are in the Uk.

Damian, I hope you got that wrong, any half baby is horribly wrong. Hopefully we and only dealing with complete babies here!!!!
