I`m going for 9 daysin february for a romantic end of our tour through thailand ( 3 weeks touring) Maybe some inside info anyone ? She says a lot of the guests are there on honeymoon.Being a Thai she is shocked at the prices in the restaurant. Many people go out especially during the day to eat. Its in a very nice part of Samui, a bit private from the real crowds but close enough to some where like Chaweng if u want Also nice but not as good beaches towards Big Buddha. jonniebkk Posted October 23, 2007 Share Posted October 23, 2007 I would second the above...Tonsai is a very nice hotel situated on a quiet bay not too far from the action in Cheweng. It is on CHALONG bay maybe 10-15 minute drive to Cheweng if memory serves. It is sorta on it's own little hilly promentory off to one side of the bay and is secluded and romantic...perfectly if one just wants to relax and chill...but not much action on this bay except there are nice seafood barbeques everynite on the bay's beach. Great if one likes local seafood...you can eat right on the beach. In addition, the hotel just had a refurbishment so should be nice and new...it was one of the pioneers of luxury boutique hotels on Samui. Only concern might be the weather as you will be in the Gulf of Thailand during the rainy and windy season for that part of the country. Hills are steep down from the reception area but they'll take you down with a golf cart, including to the various hillside bungalows. There's a hotel building on flatter ground near the pools and beach. Nice restaurants but expensive. The sand on the beach can be very VERY hot due to a course kind of sand and you need slippers/footwear to reach the sea, otherwise you burn your feet ! Also be aware, if you stay in one of the hillside bungalows, with the steps outside since they vary in width and depth and if it's dark you can easily fall and hurt yourself, especially after a drink or two/three Not for wheelchairs.... It's kind of quiet and not much action around. For action you need to go to Chaweng. They can arrange their own taxis/transport but like everything else, also expensive. Late at night it could be a problem to find transport back to Tongsai Bay, oragain, expensive (in comparison to 'normal' Thai prices). Nevertheless, if you're on a romantic trip.........who cares. It is romantic clambering over the rocks on the beach. As I remember, there are some sharp stone near the shoreline, so you'll need something on your feet whilst wading in the sea. February is usually very nice, and dry The rainy season starts in October, winds and rain are possible August-September but that wind comes out of the SW whereas the rainy season comes from the northeast and north.
