before i post this in its own thread i just want to ask one question:

do you ever get that sinking feeling after spending and hour composing a post and you get no feebback whatsoever?

here is my post and i am crossing my fingers hoping for some help:

non imm o multi entry no special docs or funds needed?!?!?!?

good for one year or 15 months? just border runs every 90 days

TGTBT (to good to be true)?

what am i missing here?

ive been reading this forum for a while and that's a new one on me

of course i could have easily overlooked it

where have these been obtained?

what countries / consulates please?

i called the new york embassy twice now for help, they wont answer any questions

they just say check the website

which seems to be both out of date and full of holes and unanswered questions/concerns

the dc embassy is a possible option but not nearly as conveinent

could maybe do by mail but my new york address is not in their jurisdiction (problem?)

any suggestions or experiences?

i plan to call dc soon and see how helpful they are

my options are pretty much open:

please correct me if i am wrong about the length of stay and if there are longer stay options available

i have a letter from a thai school to study thai - ed visa, 90 days? multi?

i have a letter from a thai school with a possible job offer - b visa - 90 days? multi?

i have a letter from a thai friend as long term character reference - visiting friends - visa? ???

i can fufill o-a retirement options (knocking on my head) but with o-a visa probably can not work legally in thailand - 1 year no border runs, just 90 day reporting ?

also no plans to transfer funds to thailand now or in the futrue,

(yes you read that right, <deleted>-TRUE

got that on a fortune cookie once:

'your futrue looks bright,' i just cant shake it now)

and now this type o multi entry!!!! huh?

thanks all

i really appricate this forum and the thread about working with a retirement visa

just shows to go ya :o

Hi Deejah

You are not alone. I get that sinking feeling every time I try to deal with Thai burocracy. You seem to have a number of options open to you but the thing you need to inform TV members is :- WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO. HOW LONG DO YOU WANT TO STAY IN THAILAND AND FINALLY CONFIRM IF YOU WILL NEED TO WORK. With this info, I'm sure you will get help here, plus advice from US expats with regard to the best/easiest route for US residents.

Finally. Good luck and I hope all works out for you.

If you properly qualify for a Non-O you can work. From memory you need Thai Family, and the supporting documentation is a copy of the House Registration Book, their ID Card and then the proof that they are your family, like Marraige or Birth Certificate.

You certainly can work with a Non-O Visa, as generally the reason they are granted is so you can support your Thai Family / Wife / Child.

If you have Work set up, then it does not matter if you get a 1-month or 12-Month, as when you get your Work Permit, you get the Visa extended at that point in time. Then you only have the 90 day reporting to do, which takes about an hour, or do what I do, and send your wife to do the 90 day reporting.

I have been living and working for about 3 years with Non-O and a Work Permit. I was originally given a 3-month Single Entry Visa, and after getting my WP and getting the Visa extended, you get a Multi re-entry permit, and you can come and go as you like.

As far as a Non-O for Retirement, I don't know as I am not retired and not old enough for that.

As for What Embassy, I don't know either, both times I have applied, I have taken my wife with me, and she had all the required documentation.

I hope that helps.

Hi Typhoo

I also got mine from same place as you last March and it too has 'EMPLOYMENT PROHIBITED' stamped below visa stamp, so me thinks this is nothing new.

No prob, I was'nt going to work anyways, but dont remember telling them that.
