I want to give this useless piece of Microsoft garbage the boot.

Please can anyone recommend a free, reliable web-based e-mail service other than Yahoo and Gmail, which I have already. Thanks.

Hi :o

No problem with any of my three Hotmail accounts - web access works fine as does access thru Windows Live Mail application ("Outlook Express new version").

Best regards.....

I have been accessing over the last 5 days but with great difficulty getting connected after entering user name and password. Once connected to my box it works great. I like to think my problems are related to the only connection I have from home which is GPRS/Edge. I do get connected after 4-5 tries but thats normal from this connection.

Since a week or so, after a trying to login, Firefox sends me this message after endless bouncing from one MS server to an other:

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

Cookies are not disabled, but I don't care, ok I agree lets dump the microsoft garbage or is it Firefox f* up again?.

There have been a lot of problems for me accessing Hotmail over the last couple of weeks using Outlook Express. I think it's the ISP that is the problem.

Access is currently OK.

Hello.

No problems AT ALL for me - using three Hotmail accounts (and a couple of G-Mail) via TRUE, neither from home (Bangna) nor from office (Lad Phrao), using Firefox and Windows Live Mail (like Outlook Express, under Vista).

If you get the "redirecting in a way that will never complete" message in Firefox, try to access that page with Internet Explorer. I get that regularly on thai websites..... they haven't learned in this country that there are browsers other than IE, and make every site strictly for IE-only.

Best regards.....

Hotmail has been going haywire the last couple of days for me, I am in California. Not long ago they switched me to that stupid new format they have, woohoo.

With Internet Explorer I can access Hotmail, with Firefox not, I don't know why some believe that Thai ISP's causing this problem, I use True dialup in Phuket but I believe that Microsof makes Hotmail incompatible with other internet browsers.

The Borg will not rest until the last competition is assimilated.

The easiest way to get into Hotmail is through Windows Live Messenger.sign in and open it up from there, best way I found to do it when I was in Shanghai as China regularly blocked Hotmail services for whatever reason.

I spoke to the engineer at CAT about this the other day. They said if you logon to msn.com it is routed through Singapore, and they have a big problem with the pipe to Singapore at the moment. They said if you logon to hotmail.msn.com it is routed from America, and the connection is alot more reliable.

Not sure if this is BS, but it works for me. I am sure there are many more technically enlightened folk here who will shoot me down in flames, but I am just relaying what I was told.

I haven't been able to connect to hotmail from my Maxnet connection for several weeks. With Firefox I get the "never complete" message, with IE6 the page times out. I can connect easily using my dial-up connection and I use that to check my mail.

Because for the last two days, all has been OK. I suppose M$ could've changed their Hotmail access protocols... but I doubt it. It's much more likely that the Thai ISPs are screwing around (i.e "upgrading") something in their network.

I now use Maxnet's primary DNS server as my primary, and OpenDNS's primary server as my secondary. So far, no problems accessing international sites, but I don't believe DNS server problems were the cause of all the recent international access problems.

I use Outlook Express - I hate the Hotmail web site (including the new Windows Live "upgrade") and the Gmail web site.

I've had no problems for a couple of days using Outlook Express to pick up mail from Hotmail. I just tried the web access - no problems logging in to Windows Live and going to Hotmail. I'm on Maxnet 2560/512.

If I can ever get back into Hotmail, to send out a notice to all my contacts, I am switching to another e-mail service, Hotmail is nothing but trouble and very unreliable to try and use anymore. :o

This could vary well be true. I use US based hotmail with linux and Opera browser.  Never have a problem not even today.  I switched my email account to live when I was using messanger and live one care months ago.  I don't use them anymore, but my account says its live hotmail and I don't use IE7.  MSN web site says it works best with IE7, but it works with all browsers.

I can't connect with Hotmail either.

Absolutely no problems today on Maxnet using either Outlook Express or the web (www.hotmail.com >> Windows Live Hotmail). Also torrents are coming down at a respectable rate too.

Perhaps a kind mod would merge all these threads together and move them to the Technology forum?

ok, so now I know why I kept getting network probs with my msn messenger. I don't read the tech threads so I would not have seen the other postings and as I am in Phuket, the OP did me a favour, I was screaming at my mac. I use MS web access to get to my office emails and that worked fine (sadly- 50 incoming so far today). messenger for macs sux the wazoo.
