November 6, 200718 yr Hi folks, I have found myself going to Thailand at short notice. I intend to travel to Nong Khai and then into Vientiane and to Luang Prabang. I leave in 3 days so I have to make decisions really fast. I know Laos isn't covered by this forum but I figure that thpse here are likely to visit on holidays/ for visa runs etc. I am looking for hotel recommendations in these cities in the 900-1,200 baht range. I have looked at a few booking sites and there seem to be few options for budget travelers (especially in Luang Prabang). Where options are available it is hard to find recommendations. I need to be able to book online (and preferably pay online) and get confirmation asap. Of course it needs to be safe and clean. I'd really appreciate any advice folks can offer. I'll continue to search but if anyone can throw some suggestions it would be fabulous. As an aside, does anyone know how quickly i can get a Lao visa in KK or NK?

Have a look at Frommer or www.sawadee.com When you open the sawadee site you will get Bangkok hotels. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Other destinations" and you may pick up these cities. ASIAROOMS may also cover these cities. Edited November 6, 200718 yr by Bicko

Online bookings will restrict your options in smaller places. I don't know about Laos, but in Nong Khai I would stay in the Grand Hotel, which you can book via internet.

November 6, 200718 yr We just returned from Vientiane 2 weeks ago. We stayed at the Riverside Hotel. It is only a year or so old, and the rooms are good sized and very clean with cable TV, private bath and A/C. The location is terrific. Forget the breakfast as it consists of instant coffee (Should be a criminal offense with the delicious Laos coffee everywhere.) and a few crackers. But there is a wonderful pastry shop a few doors down. Paid 600 baht per night. Don't know if they have Internet since my wife booked by phone from Bangkok. You can find the phone number by googling. It is worth the price of the call to stay there. I heartily reccommend it.
