Just wondering if it is possible to get an extension on a transit visa, as I will be leaving shortly after it expires and do not want to do a visa run just for the sake of a week. Thanks much.

Are you sure that you have a "transit" visa? Almost nobody uses them. Most people have 30 day visa exempt entry or a tourist visa. In any case an extension of up to 7 days can probably be obtained. Cost will be 1,900 baht and current photo. They may want to see your ticket onward when they issue the extension.

Oh. I though the 30 day stamp was a transit visa. So no, I dont have a transit visa. Thanks for the info on the extension. Now to calculate what one will be a bigger pain in the butt. Six hours on a vip aircon coach, or standing in a hot cue down at immigration for hours? Hmmmm.

I just got back from a mini-bus-fuss visa run to Mai Sai to activate my 2nd Tourist-visa....no problem for me,BUT, the two young guys on the same bus thought they could get a 3rd- 30-day visa.....but instead they got a 2-day -'pack-up and get out of the country'- stamp!

They were shocked and were scambleing to figure out what to do.....it sounded like they were going to make quick trip to Laos for the tourist-visa.

I suggest you get your facts about the Thai-visa and your calander-dates in check or you may find yourself in a costly situation.

Why would you want to pay 1900 baht for a 7-day extension when you can pay 600B for a bus and $10usd to get a 30-day pass?

another question may be ....."why do you travel"?

if you do not have $10US they charge you 500bt. i went on a day tour it went to the hot springs/a boat on the river to laos. temples/ hill tribes and when it was in Mae Sai for shopping i went across the border. it cost 750 bt and included lunch

That's kind of troubling, so from your observation, the two young fellas had only used

60 days of visa-exempt and were only given two days more? Usually at the more

heavily-trafficked checkpoints they are less about games and more about business. There

doesn't seem to be a current visa category which isn't constantly undergoing changes. :o
