Registration Of Foreign Marriage To A Thai Citizen

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i got married to my thai wife in singapore about a year ago.

I have yet to register the wedding in thailand.

Anyone can advise me what i need to do.

Also, i know it's kind of late, will i get fined for it?

thanks,

paul.

A legal marriage is legal regardless of where it was performed. Only if you need extensions of stay based on marriage would there be any requirement to do anything in Thailand.

thanks lopburi for the fast reply.

So i understand if i want to get to stay in thailand for 1 year without exiting the country i would have to register my wedding in thailand.

I suppose i would need to if i intend to register an export company too. Because i understand, the requirements is lower for a foreigner married to a thai

wife.

also, is it possible to keep getting Non immigration O visa every year to stay in thailand or eventually they will ask you to apply for the 1 yr extension of stay

and show income documents of 40k.

As long as Consulate will issue the one year visa you can continue to use the method - if Singapore is your home and you apply there I suspect they would not stop. Do not believe you really have to register marriage (you really can't as you are already married) but some do some paperwork at the district office (register translation?) and others don't seem to have to do so you can probably play that by ear - if Immigration will not accept your marriage certificate do what they say needs to be done when/if you apply for an extension of stay. At any rate you are not late or subject to any fine.

you marriage is already registered in Singapore. As Lop said, that marriage will be recognised in Thailand. So no need to register your wedding in Thailand!

You will have to show your Singaporean wedding certificate when you head down to immigration though, to extend your visa.

I think you have to go to ministery of foreign affairs first, get all your translated papers stamped and later you go to immigration. It was like this 12 years ago, maybe things ar changed.
