1stbase
Anyone know of any Casinos near the Cambodia border with Texas Holdem Poker? Would like to stop by when I do my visa run. What is a common found game limit there and are they run 24 hours a day?
onethailand
24 hours a day, but you won't find any poker tables. The closest you might get is Caribbean Stud Poker... 90% of the tables will be Baccarat. 5% Blackjack, 3% Roulette, and 2% everything else. ParadiseLost
I was at the Poipet 'casino' in September and (in my humble opinion) it is a disgrace. Its more a gaming hall than anything else - picture plastic chairs and no carpets. The spectacle of fistfuls of Thai Baht being used on the tables is really tacky... No poker, Caribbean or otherwise, and no blackjack that I could find. Even in the 'VIP' section - which is open to all I have been to many casinos in many countries, 1st and 3rd world - but this is the worst. Edit: I am unsure of whether it was Poipet, or Aranyaprathet - pp stamp is illegible and the memory isn't exactly what it used to be Either way if this is a true example of a Cambodian 'casino' then do yourself a favor and fly to Macau for a few days instead - its great! There are about ten Casino,s in Poipet, I frequent all of them plus Holiday Casino at Sihanoukville and I have never seen a Casino such as you describe, unless you ventured into one of the hole in the wall establishments that usually only have a few old pokies for the locals to play.. All the major Casino,s are quite well furnished with good accommodation and a variety of restuarants . All have poker rooms with usually Caribbean Stud and Pai Gow poker tables. Arunyaprathet has no legal casino as casino gambling is illegal in Thailand.

I did not visited Cambodia as such, just a quick border run. In fact we were given free lunch at the casino as part of the fee. Another visa run in a few weeks - I will investigate Poipet! ParadiseLost
The stamp on my departure card is clearer, the border post is Pong Nam Rong.
bangkapiboy
Most Poipet casinos I have been in had BlackJack tables at 100B minimum. Poker -- I don't play.
tycann
Weird that you just asked this question, it's exactly what I've been trying to find out tonight! From my googling it doesn't seem good, as one poster said, I've only seen references to Pai Gow and Caribbean stud. Haven't found any links to the major Poipet casinos yet, hopefully I will and find a list of games. If you do get to the casinos, tell me if you find hold'em. PM-ing you now with a topic that would get this thread closed.

tycann
There is a thread on this in the Visa sub-forum but seemed to be an inappropriate place. Question is for anyone familiar with the casinos in Cambodia. Is there any one that offers Texas Hold'em? Or just Pai Gow and Caribbean stud? 1stbase
I was in Poipet and asked a foreign security guard at one of the casinos and he told me holiday palace had texas holdem. I went there, there were tables set up, but no players. I gave the manager my number to call me if anyone came but no biters. I guess there isn't enough interest down there yet. onethailand
Holiday Palace is forward-thinking - in actual fact, the tables you saw are new. But I have yet to hear any news that they are opened for business. As for pai gow - I repeat, none of the casinos have pai gow. At least one casino (Tropicana) may have pai gow poker - but these are two entirely different games. Furthermore, a quick glance of the list of casinos at worldcasinodirectory shows that it is clearly not up to date - and in fact resembles the information provided by Casino City, which is 99% sure to be the original source of the information as they are in the casino directory business. I also consider Poipet the worst casino area I've ever seen. However, it has improved dramatically from four years ago. All of these casinos are LEGAL - as they are licensed by the Kingdom of Cambodia. Edited December 5, 2007 by onethailand
doggie1955
The best place to play poker in Cambodia is in P.P. and I go to Riverking and Naga world. I do know of some good places in Bangkok also.
