A Few Days Away From Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi to you all, i will be in Bangkok for a week over Christmas and wonder if anyone can reccommend a good place for a few days break. I would prefer a beach destination and some place not too crowded. I dont think i will be able to get a flight now, maybe i have left it too late but i am willing to spend 2-3 hours on a bus so if anyone can reccommend some place, i would be very greatful.

many thanks in advance

if you want something reasonable priced search on or after xmas eve.

cha am is a small sleepy town on the gulf 2h south of bangkok - it's some 20 km before hua hin

There are still flights available on Air Asia to Krabi Dec. 23 and 24 in the 2200 baht range (about 3000 baht including surcharges). Also much cheaper flights are available to Ranong, from which you could head off to Koh Phayam, a paradise of an island. At both locations the beaches are far nicer than those within bus range of Bangkok. Check Air Asia online, also Nok Air.

I would go to Pranburi (between Hua Hin and Prachuap). It is quiet, not touristy and the landscape is simply breath-taking. If you don't have beach weather, just rent a bike and go around (a small road goes along the beach). You can go bird-watching or visit mountain pagodas. There are also local boats for hire. A bungalow accommodating 6 people easy costs 500 THB under the week and 800 on the weekends.

can voutch for sutnyod on this one, I'd advise anyone to visit the coast of Pranburi - Prachuap before they realise what they have & turn it into some kind of tourist area.
