Featured Replies

Visiting back to States for a few weeks.

Are there Prepaid sim cards available? like everywhere else in the world?

Any info please help?

Per minute charges to call back to Thailand?

Thanks to you guys in the states been a way for a while!!! :o

GSM is not yet very widespread in the US (They use a crappy proprietary system that locks the telephone to the telephone company, a'la Europe 1970) so even if it exist it would be for certain areas.

But it could be interesting to know if it exist at all, and if so, where....

Think T-Mobile sells prepaid cards in Yankland! :o

All phones can be unlocked to accept other Sim Cards, your local cell phone retailer (independant is best) would be able to do it or point you in the right direction.

totster :o

T Mobile has a prepaid SIM card that works in Tri Band phones. Be sure you have a tri band though, the US is on the third GSM band differant than asia and europe. Also, the system works only in major cities and along highways leaving much of the hinter lands out of communication. Regarding costs, I think it was about $1.50 minute to call back to thailand but only about $.12 to call inside the US.

Take a look at www.t-mobile.com for more info.

That assumes they have a sim card in the first place ... the cell phones I had while living in the US (digital of some sort but not GSM), did not have simcards, the phone number was embedded somewhere inside the gadget.

Anyway, seems T-online (German company) is taking over the cellphone market in US. Once people start realizing the advantages in GSM/GPRS and simcards it'll be a revolution. They're just a little retarded so far :D

Anyone know if T-online's prepaid cards offer GPRS as in Thailand?

If you visit any country for more than a few days it is worth looking at local prepaid SIM cards.

I have just been to India for a month on business.

DTAC was stinging me at 80 baht a minute for call, including the ones that did not connect.

I bought a local SIM card, for which I had to produce a copy of my passport. Then the calls home to Thailand were only 15 rupees, a little less than 15 baht, a minutes

I don't know what a sim card is, but I call Thailand from the US using a prepaid phone card from Nobel.com. They have the best rates - about .20/minute give or take a few pennies depending upon type of card purchased.

Japan is the same way- I was absolutely shocked no sim cards. I asked about them when I got into Narita and I might as well been an Alien. :o

I'd thought as gadget oriented they are they would certainly have them, but sadly they don't.
