Laundry

I'm at Surin beach - I've tried most of the local places over three years. All have ruined good clothes by boiling them in rubbish machines with powder which is worse, drying in the sun and so on.

The local laundries are fine for towels, everyday/work clothes etc, but anything decent or which requires - God forbid - reading of the care label, forget it.

I gave up and imported a quality washer and drier from UK.

Here's a counter question for anyone else - can one buy quality washing powder anywhere in Phuket? The 'Pao' brand exists in many different colours of bag, all of which say much the same thing in Thai. The ingredients list is the same on all too. They are all OK for whites, but not for black or colours. There are brands labelled 'colour' (in Thai) but these also contain optical brighteners (fluorescent dyes) so are a no-no, and the only ones available are for hand wash, which produces a Mt Everest of suds in a front loader.

Don't go thinking I'm a washing machine bore or anything :o
