PIKE
If the prices of both airlines are roughly the same, what is the point! This has achieved nothing, unless both airlines reduce their fares.

ChangMaiSausage
Amazing how these prices have stuck for so long whilst the rest of Thailand is opening up with cheap air fares (I know Bangkok Airways was the only carrier) I have just booked flight for March/April 2 adult, 1 child and 1 infant BKK-Samui - 20,110,00THB(RTN) BKK-CNX - 4,658(RTN) How can they continue to justify the cost!!! emmezeta
Now I understand the discount from Bkk-samui from 2300 and 2600 bath..... To undercut first month of a competitor...... Anyway a Thai flight is useful for europen customer, they are partner with Lufthansa so you can get a single online ticket, baggage routing and points..... goldfinger
It is already possible, to check luggage through to Samui from Europe, no need to have a Thai connecting flight. And I think a roundtrip BKK USM BKK in M Class (no firts/last promotion) was alltogether 8175 Baht last month, so not nearly the same as Thai. Samuian
The results of the Monopoly, rip off wherever they can! But same time hurting the tourist industry on Samui! I wonder how lucrative this flight route is. Got to be the biggest money spinner in the region!

Shrubbery
i would love it if i could fly Samui-NY, but i am probably dreaming. Could be a bit tricky landing a 747. The runway would have to be extended conciderably and would probably need strengthening.

I wonder how lucrative this flight route is. Got to be the biggest money spinner in the region! Most profitable route would now be Singapore / Penang just over 10,000 baht return / Singapore KL same (but that has now finally budget carriers). Monopolised = rip off eitherways. Samui still a rip off and no wonder tourists go elsewhere, they are ripped off as soon as they arrive at the airport by taxis. Then bitten by dogs on the beach.. lol
Rooo
Thai Airways International (THAI) will this week launch twice-daily flights between Bangkok and Samui Island, targeting European tourists making stopovers in the capital, the national carrier announced Monday. The daily flights will begin on Thursday using Boeing 737-400 airplanes with a capacity of 149 passengers. "We aim to make the route very competitive by marketing it to tourists from major European cities currently served by THAI connecting through Suvarnabhumi Airport," said THAI Exectuive Vice President Pandit Chanapai. http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_news/b...s.php?id=125860

Higgins
The price isn't that much an issue for me... and i take the first or last often. But my last 3 flights with Bangkok Air have resulted in 2-3 hour delays. I will try Thai... purely on the basis of that.
southwest19
I don't rate Bangkok Airways at all. I have just booked a Thai Airways, Samui Bangkok return through a local agent for 6820 THB including taxes etc and flying at sensible times. The ticket is non-changable and non-refundable which suits me fine instead of having to buy a more expensive flexible ticket that I don't need. Maybe this is a Thai Airways promotion fare I am not sure.
