Assumtion Hua Mak Campus

Featured Replies

Hello to everyone,

I'm heading back to Thailand for grad school. The campus is in bang kapi and I was wondering if anyone knows the area? I was thinking about living instead in Bang na, mostly becuase there is more to do around that area. Any advice about the Hua Mak campus area would be greatly appreciated.

I live in this area.

I would get bored making an unnecessary trek from Huamak to Bang Na every day. It would be ok if you were riding a motorbike but driving down Sri Nakharin in the rush hour or taking a bus is going to waste a lot of your time.

I don't feel there's a huge difference between Bang Na and Huamak/Bangkapi. Neither are city centre or heavily farang-ed and both have a huge choice of accommodation.

Why do you favour Bang Na?

There is plenty of accommodation around the ABAC Hua Mark area. ABAC is located in Ramkhamhaeng and there is no shortage of accommodation there. Bang Na is too far in my view, especially if you do not have a car. If you wanted to be closer to the skytrain transport, there is also plenty of cheap and quality acommodation in On Nut, which is only a short drive to Hua Mark.

I lived both in Bangna and Bangkapi. Bangkapi is a much much more interesting and busy area (including traffic gridlock)..... I would almost dare to say its the most busy area of Bangkok if not the entire Kingdom....

Bangna is rather dull......

Ahh... Thanks to all for the sage advice. Hua Mak it is. Assumption has a shuttle anyway so it's always an option.

Thanks again

If you need any help or just a free translator, PM me.

I graduated from Hua Mak.

Plenty of options, talk to the grad school they can set you up easily enough; alternatively there are several condo buildings within walknig distance of the campus. One brand new one would be perfect; high rise condo that is probably just getting complete about now.

In the rainy season, there is NIL chance of avoiding getting wet (the rain is like a foot deep) and no taxis, so walking distance is absolutely the way to go. The large park nearby is open for public and good for running/ecxercise.

You would be INSANE to commute between the two more than you have to, plus the Bang Na campus has not much happening out there; the library is possibly better, although these days all the key journals can be downloaded as PDFs using the library system, which is much better; I think for my thesis I had something like 300-400 articles on my subject area. Manually doing it, there is not a phyisical campus library in the world that would have provided this sort of depth.
