A week ago know my father inlaw was coming out of work on his motorbike when a light that hangs over the road fell down and hit him on the head. he received 10 stitches to his head and a week off work.

I asked my wife who is Thai does he get compansation for this ?

She told me no her father had to pay the hospital bills and lost a weeks wages.

surely somebody must be held accountable.

He was driving without Insurance??

I dont really see how insurance would help him, but a crash helmet might have :o

That's exactly for what the Polabor Insurance, which every vehicle need to have, incl. motorbike, is: for Medical treatments. There is an Amount of THB max. 15,000 per case, or if the other party is an vehicle as well and the fault it by the other max. THB 30,000 per case.

So, normally the hospital pp. should be covered for your father in law!

Cheers.

The weekly accident i see in Thailand the people just drive off, if they can, whether its their fault or not, if this was the case how can you prove someone else was at fault.

And... in the case of a serious accident, the incidental compulsary insurance is hardly worth the paper it is written on compared with real bill.

As said before, advise the Father Outlaw to put a helmet on his head. It could all have been avoided.

He will probably be unable to find anybody "accountable". Thailand.............

It was not a good week for motorcyclists and things from above... as last week also, I was riding in the evening and encountered a heavy rope with a big knot at the end that was hanging down and which apparently had fallen loose from a big banner that had been suspended overhead across the roadway. The end of the rope, with the big heavy knot, was precisely at eye level, and was suspended from the banner above precisely where motorcyclists were traveling through in their lane. It smacked me right square in the face. As it was evening and the rope was black with dirt and oil, it was virtually invisible until impact. Without my helmet's face-guard protecting me, I have no doubt it would have knocked me clear off the bike.

I take it that your father-in-law is Thai. If he'd have been farang, he would have had to pay for the light as well!!!!!!

So here the light at the end of the tunnel really is a train!
